EDUCATION FOR ALL OUR CHILDREN
December 21, 2003 - 01:07 AM

EDUCATION FOR ALL

There was a child form a poor developing country who is just little above seven years old. Everyday this child watches big brother go to school but this child can't go to school because this child is FEMALE and must stay at home to help the parents do exhausting work at home.

There are 120 million children around the world who have NEVER gone to a school. Most of them will grow up to join the one billion people today who cannot read or write. These kids desperately want to get ahead and work their way out of poverty buut most of them don't stand a chance.

ARE GOVERNMENTS HELPING?
In 1989, to protect the rights of all children, the United Nations General Assembly approved an international treaty called the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). 191 countries ratified the the CRC committing themselves to bring their national legislation in line with the legally binding obligations of the CRC.

Article 28 of the CRC commits governments to"make primary education compulsory and available free to all" Governments have promised the funding to meet this goal but most of them aren't delivering.

Unfortunately since 1992, development assisitance taken from rich couuntries to poorer countries - part of which goes to education - have decreased by more than 20%. Governments around the world are breaking their commitments to children

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE?
The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) estimates that it would cost an additional $9 billion a year for thee next 15 years to provide primary education for all the world's children. This is just over 1% of last year's world military spending of $756 billion. For less than what American spend annually on cosmetics or what Europeans spend on ice-cream, every child on the planet Earth, age six to twelve could go to school.

CAN IT BE DONE?
Sure. One way to help ensure spending goes to education is for governments to participate in the international 20:20 intiative proposed by UNICEF and other UN agencies. This plan calls on governments in developed countries to commit 20% of their development assistance and those in developing countries 20% of their national government budgets to meeting basic human needs including education.

YOU CAN HELP
Please write, fax or e-mail one or more of your representatives in your national parliament asking them to live up to the commitments made in the CRC and they should also provide sufficient funds and enact policies that will ensure free, compulsory and quality education for all the children.

Sure. But i am by nature pesimistic.

This did not work in past and does not work now and sure aint gonna work tomorrow.

Example:

In gypsy camp in Macedonia, father of several kids was aksed about sending his kids to school.

He replied, yes, boys maybe.

Why not girls ? Ehh. he says: they will stay at home and clean after me.

Thats it. Anthropology class is over 4 tonight.

Ave Futuria

EVERY CHILD HAS THE RIGHT TO BE EDUCATED IN ORDER TO BE ASSURED OF A BRIGHT FUTURE . IN OUR GENERATION NOT UNTIL WE ALL WORK TOWARDS ACHIEVEING THIS,CHILDERN AND GENERATIONS YET TO BE BORN WILL SUFFER AND WHO KNOWS WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES WILL BE, SURELY NOT GOOD SO LETS ALL TRY THE BEST WE CAN TO HELP THE GOVERNMENT ACHIEVE THEIR GOAL TOWARDS THE PROGRAMME 'EDUCATION FOR ALL'BOTH FEMALE AND MALE.

The right of the child to education is really imperative, national governments especially those that have ratified the CRC need to redouble their efforts in the education of children.

UNICEF Cameroon is preparing to launch an “Acceleration of the education of the girl-child initiative in Cameroon”, this is hoped to redouble the efforts she has been putting in place so far on behalf of the girl child.

The Cameroon government after making primary education free in the country embarked on other initiatives to improve on the standards of education and expanding the education radius to all the nicks and crevices of the country.

I praise the efforts UNICEF still is doing in Liberia to educate the thousands of children that have been rooted out of school by so many years of civil instability.

The world today issit fair, and i just hope we can have people who feels like a child at heart, if not everything we are oping for is on ruin because we are faced not only with some government who are only there for sake of making money for themselves without thinking about the future leaders i can see one day everyone will be tied of everything and everyone will be doing wantever pleases him.

People are too much in material things at heart than they lived some years back like communities and nown it like survival of the fittest, you find gorvernments only thinking about want they can do for themselves (indvidual countries)than helping other children education in other poor countries which cost less than $3 per year in primary and $10 per year n secondary schools.

We all had been lobbed of our rights to Education especially in developing countries and if this continues for years i think developing will always be called developing nations for many thousand years to come.

I believe as a 16 year old student. That the people in the world all people should be intitled to education. All people should have a steady life of education no matter who they are where they live or how much money they have. Education is important to keep people on track to make sure they feel important about themselves and what they want to accoplish in life. I believe strongly in this. I think we should take more of an action to put out more money to people who need it to start school. Maybe people should put out more volentering and churches. the I also believe in people no matter what should get the same amount of education no matter where you are. we all should be treated equaly.
