Blatant Racism or Satire?

Saw this website a while ago. Quite like the people who respond to the website, my friends have had mixed reactions to the content.
Just wondered what everyone else thought of it. Is this racism, or a running joke on the undertone of racism?
Curious to hear your thoughts.

I am glad that the sight is there, because black people love me too, and now I can relate to other white people loved by black people. Word up!
Anybody who is offended by that sight is a freaking moron! Unless of course they are bigots, and are offended by the incredibly cutting critique of racism, and faux-political correctness.
I laughed so hard, I almost peed myself. These folks are geniuses.
Interesting side note: There were a few reactions on the sight that were so ridiculous, because they said, if this sight was made by white people, it's racist, but if it was made by black people, it's hilarious. How ignorant is that? The content of the site makes the same point no matter what the skin color of the author is!
What does everyone else think?

wow...
That was funny. I found some of the emails by people even funnier.
Although it's clear that some of the items could be offensive to someone, anything anyone says can be offensive... so... meh.
I think the aim of the site is satire. If they were really aiming for racism, it would have been a lot different.

At first, looking at this site and looking at the picture... I was like... umm, whoa, am I dreaming? Is this really a true website? And then delving deeper I really got to understand the point of the website.
Like I think maybe I'm looking way too into this but it can be satirical representation of how society is with liberal people who think they are all up with being anti-racist or what not but in actuality being damn ignorant.
For example the "Hanging Out" section the last two pics shows Johnny and Sally playing pictionary. Sally not realizing that its Africa, and Johnny not being able to get the word Racism.
The "Stuff Our Friends Care About" page lists what their friends care about. But, do they?
I think people do realize that its satircal... but I duno maybe I think that some people wont be able to understand that? Bah!
my two cents...

The site was rediculouse. It was so racist, it's not even funny. I know people like that, and we all know who you are, and I know they are racists. However, I think they used the sight to make fun of white people that try so hard not to be racist, and that in itself is racist. I though it was a good way for them to show two sides.

Satire: 1 : a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn
2 : trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used to expose and discredit vice or folly
-Mirriam Webster
When Jonathan Swift wrote "A Modest Proposal", and made the case that the Irish should eat their own children to solve overpopulation, most people of the time were incredibly offended, but he was using SATIRE to illustrate a point. The same as this website does. It uses a ridiculous, extreme example to make a point. The site deals with race, but that does not make it racist.
They are poking fun at racists, but not blatant racists like the Klan. The racists they deal with use condescension instead of burning crosses, and they wear the guise of the Bleeding Heart Liberal, instead of a white sheet. And it is a much more prevalent and dangerous form of racism today. Today the Klan and it's ilk are viewed as ignorant freaks...racism has become much more subtle, lurking in the shadows. But make no mistake, it's still there, and this site is calling it out.

I agree with Trapper entirely. If you look at the comments, a lot of the negative ones come from those who don't (how, I don't know) realise that the site is intended as a satire. I think that the site itself is well-planned and if it inspires a bit of controversy, that's not such a bad thing- at least people will be talking.

The thing I found disturbing was the letter page. Several of the letters stated that this was funny if the originators were black but racist if the originators were white. Seems strange. The satire is very good, it is disturbing on several levels as it should be. And seeing as it has encouraged this discourse seems to be doing the intended job of showing how stupid people can be. The old "I am not rasict, some of my best friends are..." argument is shown here to be dishonets and ultimately racist.

jda- Trapper mentioned that earlier too, and I'd have to say I agree. Saying that something is racist or not based on skin color seems racist in itself to me. This is often the view voiced by minorities however, for example, it's considered acceptable for blacks to call each other n----r, but not for whites to do the same. Many slurs directed at Jews are considered fine if uttered in a joking manner by a fellow Jew, but not if by a non-Jew. I understand that groups are trying to ease some of the painful past by lessening the power of wouding words, but a double standard in itself seems to point to racism by definition to me.

Satire

I'd have to say its fairly obvious that this site is reflecting satire rather than racism. I don't know that I really get the point, but perhaps I don't need to. Its apparent that racism is still alive, and we keep it alive by promoting such programs that benefit whites, minorities, etc. I don't feel that skin color has anything to do with someone's ability to progress, and such institutions as the United Negro College as well as White Scholarship programs in Alabama do nothing but promote ignorance. Such institutions apparently believe that people have racial handicaps, and promote feelings of inferiority in minority groups. I also feel that anyone who takes money from such groups only promoted racism themselves. This may have not been as true 50 years ago, but surely is now. I myself am a white man living outside of Detroit surrounded by many hard working black and white people. We do what we need to do to progress and get by, and don't seem to hold the same ideals that exist in many other parts of the country. There is truly equal oppurtunity for everyone here. I think what I got from this website is that there are still a lot of ignorant people out there, who either feel that minorities are discriminated against or that discrimination is ok. Perhaps they feel that handing out special favors is the answer to everything, but who knows. I think if everyone works hard, and does the best they can, despite the views of other people then they will go far. I do however tend to shy away from topics such as this, because to me acknowledging the existence of racism is in itself ignorance. Something only exists as long as people acknowledge it :P
