Women's Role in HIV/AIDS

Since the HIV/AIDS topic is being put forth by many members recently, I wanted to start a disscussion on women's role in HIV/AIDS.
The global AIDS crisis is one of the greatest emergencies facing the world, and of particular concern is the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS amongst women. In sub-Saharan Africa sixty percent of HIV/AIDS sufferers are women, and the prevalence rate is even higher in females between fifteen and twenty-four years of age.
In order to respond to the AIDS epidemic most effectively, it is critically important to understand the gender roles and relations with respect to HIV/AIDS when developing awareness, prevention, education, and treatment programs. At the Fourth World Conference on Women, the Beijing Platform of Action was created to advocate women's rights and establish objectives for empowering women.
How can individuals or individual states uphold these intentions and seek out opportunities for putting these objectives into action in the HIV/AIDS setting.
