thug life

All the rappers are raving about it, yet it isnt that great. What happens when you get shot? You land in the hospital with the paparazzi on your case 24/7. Or worse. You could end up dead. Sure money is great, but at what price? These people are influencing todays childeren to become thugs and be just like them. Drunk, high, or shot every day.
What do you think?

Well, yes most of these people have a terrible influence on the community and the children. Some guys reflect the present state of affairs of the state, bringing ou what everyone is going through and what the present situation is. But otherwise most of them do not have a social sense of responsibility. It comes with the package of being a rapper I guess.
But its definately not for kids!

Cultural Change
January 29, 2004 - 02:22 AM
|
|
This type of media is negative, hateful, and destructive. The new subculture that has developed, is creating a generation that is depressed, and has no hope for the future. As members of our generation, we need to stand up for what is right, and give support to positive music, television, and other media with a better focus. When the ideal family in 1959 was Ozzie and Harriet, and now it is Ozzie Osbourne, there is clearly something wrong. But we can change things. The music people listen to, on radios, in cars, and in their homes, does not have to advocate abuse, violence, rape, prostitution and drug use. I am convinced that we can create a better, happier society by changing the way media is created, and advocating for a more positive culture.

Yes but to work to improve it you must be more precice with your 'labeling' - what we are really talking about is 'gangsta rap'
There is alot of really gifted rap music - it is a grass roots music born in urban areas. I don't think there should be a conservative movement to repress rap in general because that will feed anger in the rap community - the effort must be to encourage positive forms of rap music - that which does not glorify negative attributes and actions.

Many styles of rap

Just to elaborate on Luke's point... There are many styles of rap, some of them incredibly positive and motivational. This year Fresh I.E. (from Winnipeg, where I live) has been nominated for a Grammy award in the USA in the rock gospel category. He is the first Canadian rapper to ever be nominated for a Grammy award.
More info on his style of Christian rap is available online at http://www.jesusbeatz.com/

1 hour in any parliament on this globe.

I think we spend too much time blaming the problem and not enough time working out the solution. I think the music is fine. They talk about their life experience and what they went through growing up and basiclly that life everyone sais is polluting our children was their reality growing up. There are 2 takes on this situation.
1) Parents need to be parents. Stop blaming the artists and start parenting your children I do not let my son listen to anything too crazy... thats my right as a parent and I work it. Alot of parents who complain about this music are the types who just let their kids rot in front of the TV watching MTV and seeing the videos! well answer me this! IF our children were busy participating in activities like sports, scouts, well anything social and outdoors.... where would they get the time to watch "Rap City"? Lets be parents and guide our kids.. its not "2pac's fault" its ours!
2) Solve the social economic problems that create these realities for these kids... Blame the rapper? why? remember they chose this way which I think (although not the best) is a better way than selling drugs and shooting people. Now not everyone is perfect but not all even GANGSTA rappers really do all they rap about. Without the problems of poverty there would be no need to sell drugs or kill for money.
Just my oppinion

'Gangsta rap' isn't one of my favorite things. The degredation of women, the glorification of drug use and violence; let me tell you these are not the things i want my kids to be listening to. I understand that a large part of the lyrics are about how the artist was raised but after a certain point it gets to be just an image thing. I understand that they were 'from the hood' but once they are a multi-million dollar rap artist living in a mansion not the streets, it gets hard to take them seriously when they say life is a struggle.

Hello friends,
Well, What you all say have a good point, the
fact is that a world of encouraging or a
well wish is very much worth than any insulting
music.
But, we do have the understand the root cause, this
reflect the mental standerds of the people who does this,
and indeed they can come from various layers of the
society.
So their frustration is poped out with their music...
Best Wishes,
Udara

Hello Kissitbetter,
This is a wonderful posting and i really love your comment and opinion. You are very right about the parents and the poverty level that led the rappers to some of these activities instead of killing and robbery for money.....

Thug Life

These rappers aren't encouraging our youth to live like Thugs.
I doubt ANY of you really knows what 'Thug Life' stands for.
The individual letters of Thug Life stand for "The Hate You Give Little Infants Fuck Everybody"
and N.I.G.G.A.Z stands for "Never Ignorant Getting Goals Accomplished"
Does anyone remember the Black Panthers
I don't have enough time to do my story... maybe another time.
Just wanted to say don't talk about something you don't know anything about.
