Attracting Youth
Mar 6, 2013

Hi I4ger's,

Have any of you thought how to attract youth into the world of technology and innovation?

More like, how would you guys "woo" kids between 12-16, and attract them to the world of Tech?

I think in order to attract them to technology it needs to be attention grabbing, and through an online source. There needs to be some kind of video content, maybe founded on social media or something along those lines considering it's popularity and prevalence in todays younger generations. Beyond that I feel as though in order to get people involved in certain areas it tends to need an incentive. Not necessarily monetary based, but if it were outlined the importance, role and ability of change technology and innovation can provide, i think that could really influence younger kids to get involved.

Megan

Megan,

Thanks a lot for the input, I was really thinking in using social media as well. Video engagement through using online sources will definitely help me with the audience I'm aiming at, the tech savvy's that really want to learn but cant because of different circumstances. I will be posting my new Idea in a couple of days, so perhaps I can get more useful inputs like yours.

Thanks again!

I agree with Megan in using video content and social media. But maybe you could also try to create programs in a couple schools in your area where there are things like mentors to help with those interested in technology and get more interested in technology.

Attracting those that really want to be remarkable in the field even one or three can do the job per school. Gathering all those young ones that really want to be part of it its really my goal.

Using mentors for help and encouragement while you somewhere else makes an impact , its definitely does.

Mentors definitely do help. If you can even just have someone there for the youth, whether it be a teacher, a mentor, etc., can go a long way for them. And it doesn't always have to be someone that is physically there to help and encourage; the mentor/guide/etc. can always be there for the youth through email, phone, Skype.
So maybe setting some program as a mentoring program helps, whether in-person, online, phone, Skype, or whatever.

I think games is the key to attract kids to the tech.
Developing games such as in "Kodu" could be really interesting to the kids.

Agreed with, Megan MacCallum.
Some competition or recognition could led the kids to come towards the technologies.
