Human Rights for criminal !!
Nov 7, 2012

Hello Friends,

I came across a news of some place today morning where some activists are protesting against few police officers for using third degree on a criminal in remand. They want the offices to be suspended as they violated the human right laws (according to the activists). The crime of the criminal is to murder a cab driver for carjacking and to rape a women who was passenger in that cab.

Now, the wife of that driver and husband of the rape victim want their human rights, who were devastated for nothing by that same criminal. What will happen next is future... However, I am curious to know your views on the question that says...

Do criminals, who destroy others life, should have human rights?

I know I'm supposed to be Buddhist and forgiving and stuff...but I can't get past my longstanding belief that once you forcibly removed someone's right to live, you forfeited all of your own rights.

A very complicated question, though every person is born with certain rights that they inherit once they come into the world. Though criminals are human too but they needs to be taught a good lesson since any life loss can never be compensated.

This is regarding the death penalty:
Capital punishment is one of the biggest controversial topics. One of the strongest for the death penalty is that it deters murders because the murderer is being executed. Though this is a logical point, it has yet to be proven. Many argue that murdering a murderer is “eye for an eye.” If that is the case then why isn’t it morally acceptable to rape rapists? This argument is invalid because humanity shouldn’t lower their morals to those of a murderer. Some may argue that jail is “air-conditioned, cable-equipped… where a person gets three meals a day, personal recreation time, and regular visits with friends and family.” (Carmical). This statement makes prison sound like a much more enjoyable place than what it actually is. The biggest factor is that in jail, a criminal doesn’t have freedom. When given the life sentence, the prisoner is stuck in there for the rest of his life, eating the same low quality meals, chatting with the same “friends” every day, visiting family every now and then, but knowing that once the visit is over, his visitors can walk out the door back to their regular life, while the criminal is still stuck in prison. What an awful way to spend the rest of a life. The execution of a murderer may spare the lives of future innocent victims, but what if the “murderer” is actually innocent. “Since 1973, 130 human beings on death rows throughout the United States have been released from jail for being wrongfully convicted.” (Lesniak) Is it worth killing the innocent in hopes that they are guilty? “It’s better to let 100 guilty men go free than to imprison an innocent person.” (Lesniak). The families of victims seek justice but when 63 family members of murder victims (with all different perspectives on the death penalty) were asked how it felt once the murderer was executed, they all agreed that it only made the pain worse, and that their state would be better off without capital punishment.
