Online Youth Consultation on Migration and Development: Week 1: Factoring Migration into Development Planning
Oct 8, 2012

With the movement of peoples becoming more accessible within the country, and across territories and borders, law makers are becoming more increasingly aware that their populations are either increasing or decreasing in their labor force. Law-makers must pragmatically assess the necessities of their economy in dealing with the influx or decline of migrants, whether the migrant stays for a short or lengthy period of time.

Migration perhaps has the most potential to strike at the very heart of economic policy. Migration can transform societies, and have lasting impacts. With people seeking better opportunities, the impact it has specifically on a developing nation at the economic forefront is as high as the outflow of migrants leaving. The primary focus is to seek out policy options both at the national and multinational levels in helping to optimize the benefits for enhancing economic development and poverty reduction, mainly in developing nations.

As various research papers, policy papers many indicate, the market and the state are very much interconnected. This aspect of international trade is highly pertinent, with attention given to trade and its outcomes. The trickling of funds normally gets handle by those who handle the transactions, but if it is not used for the majority, it would not have served its purpose.

Voicing Your Opinion
1. Do you feel mass migration of peoples from a developing country, fleeing for better economic salvation to a developed country is a beneficial move?

Mass migration affects the economy of the host country and does quite a lot to the destination country.
HOST COUNTRY
1.The host country begins to loose manpower and skill to the destination country.
2.The international community may/may not view the host country as a place of poor economy.
3.In actual sense, the economy may drop slightly.
DESTINATION COUNTRY
1.They benefit from the manpower and skill inflow.
2.Due to undocumented migration laws(existing in some countries),these foreigners may be treated like slaves (especially if they are illegal migrants).
3.Migrants like these are not proud of their country of origin/host country and therefore in their destination country, they are unable to express proudly their allegiance to their country.

It is a beneficial move(to some extent) for mass migration of people from a developing country to a developed country because of these reasons:
1.Immigrants start businesses=in America, the Jews and the Irish people are the successful business owners.
2.Immigrant-owned businesses create jobs for workers in their new host country/country of destination=In Nigeria,a foreigner came in some years back and setup Cool FM.Currently, this radio station which is in several parts of Nigeria, has employed a lot of Nigerians.
3.Immigrants are our engineers,innovators and scientists=In Nigeria,immigrants are our engineers e.g,Egyptians(Arab construction),Chinese(CCC Construction Nigeria Ltd.),Germans(Julius Berger Nigeria Plc),Italains(Gilmor Construction).

Voicing your opinion:

1. Do you feel developing nations should provide incentives to youths who are pursuing higher degrees, in so that there will not be a “brain” drain for that country?

2. What do you feel are some reasons migrants leave their nation? (Opinion question)

Migration can definetily be beneficial! When it's planned and individuals are able to take back to their countries knowledge and development.

In most of the cases migration is seen as a thread to the nations who receive massive migration from developing countries (or countries in conflict), but we need to start looking for strategies to develop planned and sustainable migration, avoiding youth to leave their countries causing economical and cultural unbalance.

We also need to consider new causes of migration like climate change, wars and major social conflicts (violence) that obligate people to look for a better place to live in.

I think about it, both individually and as a community to discuss both groups. Unfortunately, in today's capitalist system, the number of people who think society is dwindling. Migrations to the individual because they just think it makes sense to most people. People think, of course, but she thought herself the future of a country parties, consider prestijinide. I would like to say, the people who migrated to a sense of nationalism as well as considering the emigration and immigration countries should decide right thinking.
