The World Economic Forum and the Digital Divide initiative

At the recent World Economic Forum in New York, Kofi Annan's speech focused on asking the business community to help fight poverty and inequality throughout the world.
He said "Profits wisely invested can bring social benefits within reach - not only for the few - but for the many, and eventually for all."
He gave an interesting analogy comparing human beings to passengers on a small, storm-tossed boat called Earth, Mr Annan said: "If they are sick, we all risk infection, and if they are hungry, all of us can easily get hurt."
I wanted to give this background to what Kofi Annan next said, which is that the digital divide initiative is one powerful tool to improving the lot of marginalised groups around the world. What do people think/feel about what he said? Do we aggree?
