Gender Roles
Aug 19, 2012

What is really the true definition of being a male or female in today's world?

Being a young woman living in South Africa and having experienced different cultures I have come to understand that gender roles in different parts of the world mean different things. Here is SA a man is man if he provides for his wife and kids which automatically makes him the head of the house and the dominant figure. The woman assumes the submissive role in that even though she may have a job she is still expected to come home cook and be a mother to her children. I am no feminist. But I do feel that women should be allowed some sort of independence as our world views are changing constantly when it comes to male and female roles in society.

Should women allowed to be the breadwinner and is it okay for men to be househusbands?

Dear Deedz,
This vital discussion is truly in the minds of almost all people. May I categorize your words in the following?

1- The rights of women and men
As I understand from the generation of universe and creatures, it seems women and men are equals in creation.

2- The roles of women and men
It is obvious that there are natural differences between women and men and therefore it seems that it would be much more proper if instead of EQUILIZATION we emphasis on EQUILIBRIUM. This matter may raise questions, comments and criticism which will be welcomed.

3- The authority of women and men
The first above issue is totally natural, the second one is mostly natural but this one (the authority) is less natural and mostly contractual and human made. Societies may agree, prepare and apply justified laws and regulations.
