[Poll] How can peace be achieved in this world?
Jul 8, 2012
|
|
For me, I will say that peace is inachievable in this world. The reasons are very very obvious. It
is not as though, I don't desire a world where peace reigns, but having looked at this whole world
issue, there is no fertile ground for the advancement of peace in the world.
The United Nations was founded in 1945, at the end of the Second World War, with the major aim of
promoting world peace. This function and aim of advancing world peace has been watered down and the
United Nations has been degraded from its function as creator of peace where it is not existent to
that of intervening in cases where we have only what can be seen as make-believe peace.
How can you talk about peace when countries of the world do not trust themselves. There is so much
false diplomacy going on. One country uses the other as a battering ram against the other and so
many other ugly scenarios. Countries fight amongst themselves. The United Nations limits itself only
to cases where it can intervene because it has no powers at all. The United Nations is resorted to
by its powerful member countries, especially those members of the UN security council, only when the
UN can serve their purpose. Where was the UN when the US invaded Afghanistan? Where was the UN when
the US invaded Iraq? These are but few examples.
How can you have world peace when countries no longer trust each other? Nations go to the extent of
manufacturing and stashing away nuclear WMDs for d sole reason that they do not know what the other
nations are planning? Can Iran ever trust the US? That will never happen? Can the Middle East ever
be free of terrorist intentions against other nations? That may never happen.
So tell me how peace can be achieved in this kind of hostile environment?
Can the world ever find peace?

looking at the world of today, where there is confusion, killing and lot of vices..it can be said
that the world has no peace. But i agree with this saying where there is a will, there is a way. If
we can come together in twos, threes and can be trusted, we will surely achieve our goal and this
time, the sky would be our beginning.

we as humanbeings, we av different ideas for different goals in life. When as individuals we come
together in twos, threes we bring out our different ideas and put these ideas together into
achieving that one goal and that one goal is achieving and attaining peace in the world and we can
do this together if we can trust and believe in ourselves.

Peace can only be achieved when there is love. If people learn to love each other and accept each
other regardless of any tribal, racial, religious, political or other affiliation, peace will be
achieved.
Empowernment of people to be self reliant especially in third world countries would also ensure
activities that lead to loss of peace are no more.

Conflict has existed since the beginning of mankind. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, just
realistic. War and violence isn't going anywhere. It has always been a part of history and will
always be in our future. Countries change, flags change, new borders are created, but I honestly
believe that permanent world peace will never exist.

To maybe ground this conversation and make it a bit more rational:
"Our senses enable us to perceive only a minute portion of the outside world. Our hearing extends
to a small distance. Our sight is impeded by intervening bodies and shadows. To know each other we
must reach beyond the sphere of our sense perceptions. We must transmit our intelligence, travel,
transport the materials and transfer the energies necessary for our existence. Following this
thought we now realize, forcibly enough to dispense with argument, that of all other conquests of
man, without exception, that which is most desirable, which would be most helpful in the
establishment of universal peaceful relations is—the complete ANNIHILATION OF DISTANCE.
To achieve this wonder, electricity is the one and only means. Inestimable good has already been
done by the use of this all powerful agent, the nature of which is still a mystery. Our
astonishment at what has been accomplished would be uncontrollable were it not held in check by the
expectation of greater miracles to come. That one, the greatest of all, can be viewed in three
aspects: Dissemination of intelligence, transportation, and transmission of power."
from Tesla's 'THE TRANSMISSION OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY WITHOUT WIRES AS A MEANS FOR FURTHERING
PEACE'
What's important to note here is that Tesla is not advocating that the development of electrical
technology will 'guarantee' peace, but that it will certainly 'further' it. I can agree that such
technology is the only way for humanity to understand one another across the globe, which is an
absolutely necessary step towards fostering a peaceful, global community.
