Health News: Where do you go for daily news and headlines on health?
Jun 5, 2012

I work in the health field, and I am curious to know what sort of websites people go to to get the
latest news about health?
I go to major media outlets for the most part, but I don't find there are a lot of websites or
social communities dedicated to sharing health news.
Thoughts?

Have you ever tried using twitter to get your most up to date health news? I have an account that I
dedicate to just following health based organizations, personalities, and media that cater to the
sorts of topics I'm interested in. From there I receive links to blogs and articles I never find on
media outlets.
Additionally, there are many health talks you can participate in via twitter. Health ministers,
organization leaders, etc hold question and answer periods often.
Since you're from Toronto you might be interested in checking out a few Canadian Health chats. I
typically follow the #hcsma weekly webinars that are held every Wednesday on health care and social
media, as well as #CHCchat.
Here is a fun article to link you to using hashtags for health conversations.

Thanks for the note Amanda!
I appreciate your reply - I have participated in a few Twitter chats and find them useful for rapid
fire conversation. As an Ontarian, I find CHCchat and #hcsmca interesting forums.
I've asked this question elsewhere online and haven't come up with a lot of great answers. There
don't seem to be many active networks that foster dialogue, although Twitter always seems like a
great place to connect. For me, this has been the most useful place for professional networking.
My question originally stemmed from a project I'm working on called HealthyReads.com. It's a
response to the lack of active and engaging spaces...and it's something that I hope transforms the
way public health connects online. Feel free to check it out!
Thanks,
andrea

I'm interested to see where this project goes! I think it's a great idea.
