Animal Cruelty Most Stop!
If I knew anyone with a real, genuine, 100% fur coat, or I see a person wearing one, I'd throw eggs at them. Seriously. How can they be so selfish? Taking a life of one, just for the fur and money? Now I realize what savages some humans are. Maybe they should take a look at what an animal looks like AFTER it got it's fur removed... I can't stand this. Go to peta.com and peta2.com to get a clear view of what I mean. PETA and World Wildlife Fund are some good examples of people who DO care and try to make a difference. I even know some famous people who have authentic animal skin clothing and accessories, and I'm not a big fan of them at all. Money buys nothing but a death of a precious creature that God created. Shame, shame.

Oh, yes, and the circus. I hate the circus. Maybe it's the fact that all I get from it are animals being beaten to death to act a certain way! Can you belive that once, I was in China, and I saw polar bears skate? Yeah you heard me.. Ice-skating. I never saw that before either, and it was quite shocking how tame they were. Animals are meant to be wild, not working for people. But I do enjoy circuses, ones like Cirque du Soleil, where there are no animals in it, and it's all dance, drama and very artistic.

I agree with most of your points. We should also add animal testing, which is very cruel. However, there are certain realities which we could consider. In poorer areas of developing countries, the Philippine for instance, some animals like the water buffalo, are used to plow rice and crop fields for example. In these cases, it is more a question of survival and necessity for humans.

to wear, or not to wear... my grandfather's suede coat
March 12, 2004 - 03:29 AM

my grandfather just passed away and he left me his suede coat. i am trying to be vegan but i love it and it reminds me of him. i am wearing it for now but i feel really conflicted about it as i try to avoid all animal products. i agree though about being respectful to individual cultures. for example in northern canada there are some communities who have been hunting since time immemoriable and it is very ethnocentric of us to judge them for that.

Going back to the comment about animal testing, I agree that its completely wrong and I don't think that it is at all justified in such a technologically advanced society. I don't claim to know any specifics, unfortunately, but I believe that the only thing holding companies back from abolishing animal testing is an obsession over costs. I'm getting disgusted just thinking about the beauty companies testing our vain products on defenseless animals.
When I was last involved in an argument about animal testing, the other person was arguing for the necessity of medical testing on animals. What do you think/believe/know? Would you feel safe knowing some medical treatment you were undergoing hadn't been practiced on any living creature before? Which, I guess, means do you have enough confidence in the power of the technology that tested it? What about animal-human transplants? Should those be abolished too?
