Need I say it? HURRAY FOR OBAMA! I think it is sad that supporting marriage between two people who
love each other can still be so controversial in the United States of America. It's also sad that
saying you're an atheist is political suicide in the USA. We are still in the grip of medieval
religion in this country. The political pundits immediately said Obama had just lost seven Southern
states due to his support for gay marriage. I hope he has firmed up his grip on the other 43 through
this "courageous" act.
Meanwhile, his likely opponent in November, Mitt Romney, admitted hazing a suspected gay student
during his high school years at a boarding school in Michigan. He led a pack of students who pinned
down the suspected gay student (who had dyed his hair blond) while Romney slowly cut off all his
hair with scissors. An acquaintance of the victim (the victim has already died) said the victim had
been traumatized by the incident and had suffered all his life. When confronted with the Washington
Post story, Romney didn't deny his role in this act of bullying, but claimed he couldn't remember
it. He used the words "prank" and "joke" to belittle its importance.

Yes, I think you might be right, even if it was quite risky.
Especially young people are very into gay marriages, I must say I don't get it. Why something like
french PACS isn't enough...?

Whether he did it for political gain or not, it was a very important step to the good side not only
for LGBT rights, but also for equality in general. In my opinion, this matter is long overdue in
receiving the validation and support from the leader in this supposedly equal society. What struck
me the most was that Obama admitted that it took time for him to come to his position today. His
realization shows that one cannot be so black and white on this topic. Equality goes beyond personal
opinions, and whatever people think about same-sex marriage should not deter the right and
opportunity for everyone to get married.

There is nothing wrong in his support, but i believe because its coming from the president , a lot of
controversy will buzz around. Maybe he needs all hands on the vote paper for a second term in
office.

Ladies and gentlemen,
Please we all know what has motivated Obama for him to support gay rights. Its simply a cry for
votes. He has done it for expedience sake. One great man once said if you compromise to gain
something you lose all.
Personally, i wouldnt be surprised if Obama was to lose this years elections. The man is a religious
fellow and surely, which religion allows man to marry man or woman to woman. If indeed there's no
God, nature has a way of controlling things on its own, and thus, i truly think nature would have
created one sex if it so it suitable and to balance the environment. However, nature and indeed God
deemed it fit for man to marry woman and live as one.
i totally think Obama has lost it...never compromise your principles and integrity for the sake of
firm or votes. Am dissapointed but again not surprised, is only but man with all rights to believe
in whatever he deems fit...Food for thought: would Obama allow Sasha( daughter ) to be gay or marry
another woman? well, i guess will never know...

Anthony, religion has no place in the same-sex marriage debate because the US is a secular country.
I agree that churches should have the right to decide whether they want to marry same-sex couples in
their own churches or not, but that should not hinder the state's principle of equality. Religion is
a very subjective topic, and your belief in the existence of God is no more validated than my belief
in the non-existence of God.
Nature also works in mysterious ways. There is a lot of phenomena that cannot be viewed as
"logical", but what is logical anyway? The beauty of nature is its diversity, and we do not know the
nature nearly enough to judge its actions and purposes. But marriage is also a human creation. Most
other species do not seem to have the notion of marriage, so why are we talking about what nature's
intends are with marriage?
I am just glad that Obama made his stand clear even in times when more and more states are
backtracking to ban same-sex marriage. And I am glad that I am fortunate enough to live north of the
border.

I'm glad he supports it, I think its only fair. Same-sex relationships have been around a long time,
and I see no real problem with it.

He is the president again, it's a country he is ruling not his house, he can't prevent people from
being free and call it a democratic liberal country, yet saying that doesn't mean it's a federal
law, plus he needs supporters. he won after all
it's free country
