Has anyone volunteered abroad?

My friend has been volunteering in Thailand for a week teaching English to various groups, and she's
loving it. I think volunteering abroad is such a great opportunity to learn about another culture,
interact with people from other parts of the world, and take actions on some global issues at the
same time. I'll be going abroad myself to intern at a non-profit organization in the fall, and I'm
very excited about it! Has anyone volunteered abroad? Why did you decide to do it? What was your
experience like? Do you think you have made an impact on the issue that you were working with? How
has the experience affected you upon your return home?
I'm very curious as to what you guys think about volunteering abroad in general as well, whether
you've been or not

HI daniel, I never been a volunteer myself but I heard an amazing story of my friend whom became a
volunteer in some of our outskirt area to teach indigenous people.
Though, language was tough to communicate with them (since they are used to native language), they
never fail to attend class and try to get involved with her even with the means of using sign
languages and drawings to express their ideas.
Besides the classroom environment, she is able to see for herself of the culture on how they worked
together, communicate and even helped each other.
She's there for a week and she totally enjoyed it.
