Breast Cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of a breast. A Malignant Tumor is a
group of cancer cells that can grow into surrounding tissues or spread (Metastasize) to different
areas of the body. The Lymphatic system is important to understand because it is one way breast
cancers can spread. The first sign of breast cancer is a lump, although you can get Cysts too. Cysts
are either liquid filled or solid sacs that are almost always benign, they are sometimes too small
to detect through a mammogram, but can be identified in an ultrasound. Their are stages of Breast
Cancer- Stage 1-The cancer is no larger than 2 cm and no cancer cells are found in the lymph nodes.
Stage 2- The Cancer is between 2cm to 5cm, and the cancer has spread to lymph nodes. Stage 3A- Tumor
is larger than 5cm or is smaller than 5cm, but has spread to lymph nodes which have grown into each
other. Stage 3B- Cancer has spread to tissues near the breast, or to lymphnodes inside the chest
wall, along the chest bone. Stage 4- Cancer has spread to skin and lymph nodes beyond the axilla or
to other organs or organ system of the body.
