What are the obstructions to peace?

If we were to survey all of the inhabitants of the earth and ask them what they would prefer: peace or war, undoubtedly, most of them would say peace. With all of the killing and violence and war taking place around the globe, I honestly feel that a relatively small group people would actually come forward and state that they have a desire to see more bloodshed. The vast majority of our people want peace.
So, why don't we have it? What is stopping us? If all of us can agree that today is a good day for all of the fighting to end, why won't it? Something, somewhere, has to be fueling the anti-life, anti-peace agenda, and until we find out what it is we can never address the problem and overcome it.
So my question to you all is simple:
What are the obstructions to peace?

I think ignorance is one of the greatest obstacles to peace. Think about it - when America was segregated, white Americans were ignorant about how African-Americans were really just like them. Many people today are fearful of Muslims since 9/11, but they don't know how peaceful most Muslims actually are. It's a pattern that repeats itself, over and over. Maybe the key to peace is to have open dialogue from both sides.
