Cause of tooth decay
January 16, 2012 - 06:34 AM

Tooth decay is nothing but what we call a cavity it is caused due to infection caused by bacteria. The food particles that get accumulated on tooth surface get converted to acid leading to break down of tissues producing dental care. If not treated on time leads to pain and eventually infection and tooth loss.
Any addition to this are most welcomed.

A combination of bacteria and food causes tooth decay and cavities. To prevent tooth decay, brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride containing toothpaste and try to brush after each meal and especially before going to bed. Avoid carbohydrates such as candy and chips, which can remain on the tooth surface. If sticky foods are eaten brush your teeth soon afterwards.

It is a disease of the tooth damaging its structure. It is the most important cause of tooth loss in children and younger people. A number of micro-organisms are
Present in our mouth. Bacteria are commonest among them. Enzymes produced by these bacteria convert all foods-especially sugar and starch into acids. Bacteria, acid, food debris, and saliva combine in the mouth to form a sticky substance called plaque that adheres to the teeth.

Tooth decay can be prevented by brushing the teeth in the morning, in the evening and by rinsing our mouth after each meal. Agree with robin, fluoride is an essential mineral for our teeth, it helps keep the enamel of our teeth stronger and more protected from cavities.

One cause is a frequent drinking of soda which is really harmful to our teeth. My nephew is a victim on this.
