i'm not really shocked when i hear about "the government" doing things that harm citizens. it's sick and twisted that it's become this way, but hearing that the president, or men in washington, or big buisness, or whoever it is this time, is doing something that hurts individuals isn't a big shock. what really shocks me about miami is that ftaa protesters are jeered at, beaten, and abused by local cops. these aren't men who draft selfish policies from other cities, they are individuals entrusted with ensuring public safety. maybe i should be used to police brutality by now, but there's something about hitting someone for speaking her mind that just rubs me the wrong way.
