Cold World??

I think that is the theme they are making of me…it is a cold world…and I have to wake up to it. It is a merciless world. My reaction – Hog Wash! These are folks that lack a purpose in their life. I can think of hundred and one causes – how about world poverty, child labor, women’s rights, animal’s rights, world peace, climate change, right to education and on and on. Take your pick. None of these interest them. Amazing …and they have the audacity to call themselves warriors and go getters – when they cannot even get a worthwhile cause. It is pathetic.
I use strong words because to me they represent what is wrong with the world. Their philosophy is that of victimization. Their belief is that “might makes right.” So they think it is “World Savvy” and “New Age” to “gel” on issues that are obviously wrong….You know – you just have to be smart about it.
Yes, I have a issue with smart. Being right and being smart about issues are two very different concepts. An individual can be smart about a situation but not necessarily right. And being right is what is important. Is it not what has been taught to us since our childhood? Be honest, be good, be sincere, be hardworking. These people are making these very same values “naïve,” “not in tune with the world (their world)”, “moronic” and so on. Fundamentally I question their values and beliefs. And upon closer examination it is apparent that they are serving their own needs. They are not thinking about the larger world.

If we examine the lives of the world’s eminent leaders, their life has been a life of struggle. They fought for the right issues. They fought for what is right. As obvious as it may seem, being right alone is not enough – we have to fight for it because there are many who will disregard other’s right with little hesitation.
The world is improving. There is little doubt about that. I am not referring to standards of living. I am referring to our sense of what constitutes rights. Today we recognize human rights, women’s rights, children’s right, animal rights etc. These are modern universal values. We need to support these rights and values. Let us not just simply refer to violation of rights in case of wars, terrorism, civil strife, violence. Let us raise the barriers and try to adopt a more universal attitude.
