[Poll] sustainable living
November 25, 2011 - 08:26 PM

Most people around the world say they are concerned about the environment and other sustainability issues but only a small minority have actually changed their behaviour.
With rising populations, increasing wealth in emerging countries and billions more consumers, how can we inspire the majority of people to modify their habits and close the gap between concern and action? Is it possible? How could it work in practice?
is it possible?

Dear Claredo,
I am pessimistic about people voluntarily changing their behavior. I have tried to reduce my ecological footprint, but I find myself still driving everywhere, playing on the Internet, etc. The only way to modify people's behavior is to make whatever bad behavior you want to prevent more expensive. Clearly, gasoline needs to be made more expensive. Unhealthy foods should be made more expensive. But the car and food companies fight against anything that would decrease the use of their products. The world's population will grow to 10 billion or more by the year 2100. What will the quality of our lives be like then?
Alles Gute!
