Can Iran move into Iraq?
Nov 7, 2011

In the light of the warning by United States to Iran that they should stay out of Iraq even after withdrawal of US forces is begning to draw some critism. In your own opinion, do you think that it is the choice of Iraqi government to determine who moves in or not despite the sacrifice made by US?

I am not sure if I get you right. But it is not a case now. Iran will not enter Iraq as they know it is an independent (relatively or not) country. They would like to have more influence in Iraq, but Iraqi people (mostly of them) do not have this desire..

In fact, Iraq is on crossroad of interest of many countries (nearby and faraway,) like Saudi Arabia, Iran, the U.S., etc.. unfortunately for Iraqi people.

Hi peace, my point is if Iran will try to extend their influence on the Iraqi govt for instance through trade agreement, military partnership etc..which US might deemed as baboon works and monkey eats. Besides Irani govt never suported US war in Iraqi.

as for now, Iran cannot extend military partnership with Iraq.. and Iraq would not do it any way (as I see - from my experience and from history).. and you should be aware that the U.S. sales arms to Iraq as well as other military equipment - like uniform, cars, planes. no any other country does it. even US troops go out of Iraq there will be US military presence in Iraq. they still have bases there and soldiers event in places they should not be at (I mean cities - for example Baghdad)

so -- no place for Iran..now and even further more. please read something about history of relations of these two countries- i think they had never had military partnership..

Hey Peace, you are basing your points on history thats great but do not forget that alot had been rewritten.. If you have being following current development in Iraq, you will found out that Iran have started establishing bussinesses in Iraq before now. Think of the fast food in Iraq now, majority is own by Iranians if not ownef by their government and this cased United states to think that Iran is up for a grab. Again, President Obama openly warned Iran to stay out of Iran the day he announed that US troops will be coming home this december and to crown it all....Rice the former secretay of state also issued the same warning 3dayz ago telling them that military option is not out of US option so.....something is cooking. Finally during an inteview with Irani president, when he was asked the same question he told the reporter that it was Iraq will determine who they partner with and no other country so you can google iran position on iraq. thanks a bunch

You know, it is more complicated than this. Iran has influence on Iraq.. but the US has it as well. In fact, Iranian business is everywhere in this region - i mean Saudi, UAE and others.. I do not know where you got the information about Iranian owners of Iraqi fast food business - could you give me the source?

Other countries like Turkey and Saudi Arabia have business in Iraq.. But more than others - US companies. Americans just understand that Iran may have stronger relations with Iraq, and be supported by some part of Iraqi society.. The US do want this. Because in this case they will loose control in some parts of Iraq..

but Iraq and Iran still have conflict of interests on south boarders -- Iran is trying to expropriate Iraqi land which is rich in oil there. It won't improve Iraqi-Iranian relations.

Going further to the history I just wanted to show you that Iraqi-Iranian relationship are really complicated. Even nowadays many Iraqi do not like Iranian people.. sorry for telling this but it is a reality.
