Controlling Conflict
October 16, 2011 - 12:53 AM

If you want peace, prepare for war.

With this particular quote, most people will disagree. But it's always merely a matter of opinion. And my opinion is just the same.

One of the containment plans a firefighter will conduct is similar to this statement. When a fire is so far out of control; to a point when water, dirt, and sand can no longer do the job; they will move ahead of the blaze, to perform a control burn on a section of land. In essence, the large fire will reach this piece of land, only to come to a halt; thanks to the smaller fire, that had been large enough to clear the area, yet small enough to put out completely.

Using this same idea; with modifications, of course; I feel that the world could do a macro version of this. A failed attempt at this was the Cold War. In a sick game of mine's bigger, the United States and Russia spent a lot of years and money developing weapons and technology. Keeping up with the Jones' wasn't hard, as well; in the true manner of the game stated above, they always wanted to show each other their new toys. Eventually, the whole thing ended; and what came of it? Initially, two Super Powers, both of which had thriving economies; my theory and written evidence to show how I believe war improves the world.

However - to get back on track - this show of power exhausted us. Technology that would have taken years to fully comprehend and develop we rushed to a halt. And because of this 'advancement', human beings do not fully understand or comprehend the terrifying leaps and bounds we've made; in which, we see only the simplified versions. To most, a gun is a horrible thing; to most, a gun kills people. Thankfully, this is not the truth. A gun, is a tool; a person, is the operator. This goes to the extent of all technology, but for the sake of this discussion board, we will use weapons.

To move on, terror is a word we all hear daily. Weapons of War are continuously manufactured, and due to which, men and women of either innocent or soldier's sides die daily. This is a truth we cannot overcome. However; reverting back to the firefighter section; I believe we can quell the fires of this world, with another fire. How do we do this... if the fire is war, and the fuel is weaponry, how can we use fire and it's fuel to burn out all blazes?

While I have my own opinions, this is a discussion board - I encourage further viewpoints, and civilized discussions.
Feel free to write me, should you want to read my ideas. Thank you for taking the time and interest in this section.
