International Disarmament Week - what does it mean to you?

International Disarmament week runs from October 24th to October 30th, 2011.
Since the initial talks in 1978, the issue of disarmament in international politics has been reduced significantly. However, the role of the international community is still needed to reduce it further.
The most deadly of weapons, nuclear arms, are still held by many of the most powerful countries in the world.
For example,
USA: 8,500
Russia: 11,000
France: 300
UK: 225
China: 240
India: 80-100
Pakistan: 90-110
North Korea: >10 ESTIMATED
Israel: 80 ESTIMATED
The danger of nuclear arms did not disappear with the fall of the Berlin wall, and the international community needs to recognize that.
What can the international community do to force disarmament in the listed countries?
What obstacles do less powerful countries face in making their voice heard regarding nuclear disarmament?
How can we raise awareness of these issues so that they can be discussed at the international level?

This brief discussion has a very important message. The message is that how come most of the owners of nuclear arsenals are wasting so much time and energy trying to convince each other and the rest of the world that Iran is looking to make nuclear arsenals. Something that looks funny when you talk to people in Iran. We witness some hypocrisy from the Western powers that suggested Shah of Iran for building electric nuclear facilities but later became opposed to it because Shah was overthrown. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Farhad
