Troy Davis Execution: Questioning the Death Penalty
Sep 22, 2011
|
|
On September 21st, 2011, Troy Davis was executed in the United States on the grounds of murdering a
police officer, as the world watched. He spent over 20 years incarcerated, awaiting to hear his
fate. Despite reports of a confession from another person, and seven of the nine witnesses in the
original case taking their testimonies back, which emerged just before Davis' scheduled execution,
it was still carried out. Is the death penalty a form of justice or vengeance? Why was Davis
executed despite the emergence of strong evidence suggesting he did not commit murder?

I don't know if he was guilty or innocent, but IMHO, there was insufficient evidence to execute him.
The fact that there was no physical evidence or murder weapon ever found, and that many of the
witnesses recanted their testimonies really makes you wonder if he really was guilty.
I don't know which is worse:
1)sending an innocent man to his death OR
2)Letting a guilty man go free.
I would have preferred they keep him behind bars instead of the executing him with the many
conflicts existing in this case.
All in all though, I'm strongly against the death penalty in any case. An eye for an eye just makes
the whole world blind.

It's so painful and I am not sure whether its a human right violation though it is within the law
but from a personal point of view....... everyone has a right to life but there are varied
limitations to it....... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Usually when someone takes someone to court it is when you and someone else don't agree.
However...when it is murder, someone usually goes to court for a mixture of vengeance and justice.
But.. if they didn't have a murder weapon as evidence... and didn't have sufficient evidence, they
should have kept him on probation.
