Well Antoine - let us hope that the sinerio shapes up as you are suggesting. I'm not quite ready to assume that the US will win out - but I certainly hope you are right.
In terms of the UN veto ect - there is a very good reason for the vetos - it avoids global conflict. Each world power has enough clout for real in the international community and the veto powers simply recognise this. China, or Russia or the US are not going to go along with policies that are not in their best interests - what is a voting block is formed that moves unfair policies against one of these countries - the situation could get dangerous.
I don't think absolute democracy between nations is a good idea - I just don't think Syria should have as big a voice as the US - 1) they do not have as many people and 2) they do not represent as much resources and 3 they are not themselves a democracy so the UN representative does not even truly represent the Syrian people.
Public companies work on democratic principals - but people vote their shares - a guy with 1 share does not get the same voice as someone with 50% of the company. It is important for countries to maintain their soveriegnty.
Even in representative democracies like the US - California has more electoral votes than Mississippi.
But forget geopolitics for a moment - think about where technology will be - we will all be driving clean burning hydrogen cars. I played a video game the other day and tried to imagine what video games will be like for our kids.
Do you reolize that the life expectancy for our kids could be 120 years! Our houses will self - regulate lighting rooms as we walk into them - all the old forms of communication will have been combined into Satallite/internet/television/video phone - and there will be new forms yet to be imagined.
Think about what TIG will look like in twenty years - I would be able to see your faces and talk to you.

I understand why they have the veto powers, its because the Veto weilding powers have the militarial or economical power nessessary to cripple any attempts made by the council, and its a way of recognizing this and actually getting these nations to agree to join the UN in the first place. However I believe that because one has power doesn't nessessarily mean that one's opinion is worth more, the idea of creating a level of humanity greater than other is abhorent to me. As for population,I'm sure there are 3rd world countries with a population greater than the UK. And I feel that this is the direction that the world is going, towards a system were the people in the middle east and africa are not lesser than us because of their economical ability. And the US, France et al. will not be treated differently but have to live with the decisions of the majority.
For the record I never said I hope the US changes the entire middle east, there are negatives and positives. The destruction of a culture is a bad thing, however the resulting peace = good to over simplify a bit.

Luke, Im assuming that by "OUR," you mean developed nations, because I really dont see a need for developing nations to invest on technology just yet when they fundamentally need to secure the welfare of their people through a sustained peace and development. And twenty years is just too soon to realize this.
