Norway Attacks

My heart is absolutely broken by the attacks in Norway yesterday.
Thinking of all of the TIG members in Norway, especially any on Utoya island. Some of the best, most motivated young people of their generation... wiped out in a single act of despicable violence.

I'm wishing for strength and hope for those in Norway who must be reeling from this shocking display of violence.

This just boggles the mind! The killer must be totally deranged. How can one get one's hands on such weapons in a country like Norway? I hope the Rightists are severely punished at the upcoming elections. Norway, I cry for you...

Norway has been attacked by Christian fundamentalist out there.
A person who is a fundamentalist and is engaging in crusade of his own should be punished.

It was also difficult to read media "experts" attribute this atrocity to "Islamic terrorism" and do little to retract from that position after the real perpetrator was identified, and his motivations revealed as being anti-Muslim/anti-immigration. Not only does this doubly hurt Muslim communities (with the initial finger pointing and as the indirect target for this hate-fueled violence), it is an insult to the young victims, who's stories and experiences have been swept up in a flurry of media sensationalism and inaccuracies.

Last week in Norway, comfortable illusions were shattered so suddenly that people around the world were left grasping for new ones. A nation known as a peaceful bastion of liberalism exploded in a convulsion of sheer hatred. And the reflexive media reaction that followed ricocheted between fear-mongering about Muslim violence to flaunting a uniquely American extremism.
Many corporate news media outlets are still trying to assemble a coherent narrative, but a few instructive lessons have emerged. The first is that they never learn. Once again, reporters seized on the Muslim terrorist meme in the minutes following the attack. The instant association of “terrorism” with Muslim or Arab has become standard practice even among established news outlets.

The media today is the least responsible, without inquiring and probing into the matter a third person is blamed for the event, considering and having there own day dreams and popular stories to put before the world.
Media should consider it a responsibility. Only sorry messages will not do.
There should be freedom of media, but with responsibility. Media and freedom of expression should not be used as a license to pass remarks on other people and especially of people whom the world has so wrongly taken.
Maybe the UN should step up to bring a binding rule for responsibility and punishment in the ICJ for such matters.

I allways thought that Norway is one of the most secure countries all around the world! how difficult to me to hear such a disaster in there.
I just could say Sorry and the killer sould be punished , but police and norway gov. should think about preventing such violences.

Its sad that the attacker has been declared as insane and has been sentenced to some soft treatment. But, the person must be punished, as he has a set motive. He had everything planned.

Having witnessed 2 terrorism attacks in my country Kenya,I can imagine what the family members of those slain innocent civilians are going through.Be it Zionist or Muslim fundamentalist who claimed responsibility, innocent lives were lost.what happened is heinous and barbaric which deserves the harshest punishment of all.Just like Osama Bin Laden, the perpetrators must be brought to book and severely punished. George Bush ones said - you are either with us or against us in the fight against terrorism. We must end terrorism in order to make the world a safer and better place otherwise we may end up seeing a MUSHROOM SMOKE in the sky.
