The Future of Food...would GMO be the solution.

One of the heated debates in Kenya right now is the passing of a bill allowing the importation of GMO's.
Based on this, there are facts that the Horn of Africa and part of Northern Kenya are suffering severe famine. Would GMO's solve their problems?
As one of the Kenya Agriculturalists argued;
Acceptance or rejection of GMO’s should be from facts and not cheap propaganda by anti GM lobbyists-who shamelessly spend billions campaigning that Africans would e.g rather eat deadly pesticide residues and suffer all afflictions instead of proven safe food production technologies! For seed control, its upon us through regulation. We talk of EU’s hesitation without considering that GM animal feeds are allowed here. We don’t care to know about GM medicines that some of you could faithfully be depending on?!

The question we ask ourself if what solution is available to the problem. Do those who criticise GMO offers another better ans sustainable solution? What are these great cons that make them discredit the GMO food? These food to me are like medication, so I don't see any problems with them as long as they are tested to be fine for consumption.

The GMO debate has been blown out of context.What about the chicken that we so dearly feed on every lunch time?Aren't they also fed from GMO stuff?What about the inorganic fertilizers we use, aren't they also genetically modified?We are approaching the election year and politicians have started using this as a campaign tool.Why cant we set our own standardization bench marks similar to the EU food policies such as EurepGap, FairTrade portfolios etc.Its high time the government should start thinking seriously about the food security situation in the country.Politics will not make us achieve satiety,and for the time being GMO is the ultimate solution.
