Suicide Committed/Self Harm/Attempt Suicide
May 24, 2011 - 11:19 PM

Hi all!

Currently in South Korea,a report (anchorwoman jumped off the 19th floor apartment according to the news and a university student committed suicide over the weekend.

Wondering, if youth development programmes are engaged in Suicide prevention and/or the promotion of Positive Mental Health in any of your countries, this also includes youth and mental illness (such as depression etc)

Looking forward to your responses and feedback.

Positive Energy
Rosie

Suicide is such a waste! It seems the more "advanced" a society becomes, the more easily small setbacks can be turned into depression and even suicidal tendencies. Life has taught me: THERE IS ALWAYS TOMORROW.

No matter how bad things feel, you will probably feel better tomorrow. For teenagers, tomorrow will stretch for at least another 60 or 70 years!

Suicide for reasons of deteriorating health is another case, however. I can understand when someone doesn't care to live in intense physical pain anymore.

there is serious need for programs targeting youths on suicide prevention and the promotion of positive mental living. Though youth suicide is not common in most countries, but the need to urgently intervane in the areas where it is prevalent is paramount to its control and prevention.

I agree that there is a major need for programs targeting intervention. We have an excellent program where I live called ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training). Its a 2 day work shop designed to teach the skills to competently and confidently intervene with youth at risk of suicide. The training is free and open to the community.
