Mainly two pollution is caused by automobiles:
1. Sound Pollution
2. Air Pollution
How to mitigate it:
Maintenance and service of vehicles at regular intervals helps reduce the amount of emissions.
Sweep away the dirt from the carburetor and adjust the idling speed at every 3000 kms.
Don’t idle the car for more than two minutes. Switch off the engine if the car is stopped for a couple of minutes. Also reduce engine warm up time during winters. Idling for longer periods result in excessive engine wear which takes in more fuel for combustion and expels more pollutants.

Hi,
Air pollution is caused by the vehicles through its manufacturing, emissions, refueling and disposal. A number of pollutant-reducing innovations have been introduced by car, busses, trucks manufacturers, but basic maintenance is also a huge factor in countering pollution.
Thanks

Transportation is the largest single source of air pollution. It causes over half of the carbon monoxide, over a third of the nitrogen oxides, and almost a quarter of the hydrocarbons in our atmosphere that contribute to global climate change.

Is that true?!? What a horrifying thought. What about electric cars...solar powered vehicles? Are there other technologies that could help reduce this statistic?

There is no way that most pollution is caused by cars. I think the industrialization of China should be looked at before we are forced into electric cars. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simply Canvas Art Australia

Cars use gasoline that gives out fumes and pollute the air every single day. Every day by standers breathe the toxic air that car drivers create. The one action that causes the most air pollution is driving cars. People rely on cars way too much in Tucson, Arizona. I can even say my family drives their vehicles just across the street. There are may different options to take besides driving cars that pollute the air. Such as walking or riding the Sun Tran buses. Those little steps can make a difference.

I'm encouraging everyone to just ride the bike or walk if going to short distances and commute or carpool when going to far places or even to work. It's a good thing that alternatives are now being introduced to do away with the use of polluting cars.

There is no need of car or bike to go for small distance or the distance which is walkable. Specially going to market or dropping your kids to school it just waste the fuel adding pollution to environment. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dental Marketing

There are few ways to reduce pollution
1) If it’s only a one mile distance, then walk instead of starting the car engine
2) Support the effort of solar powered or electric cars
3) Drive on average car speed of 50mph, whereby it has been proven scientifically that moving on this speed, it will lead to better fuel economy --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- wastewater system

Driving gently and using higher gears when traffic conditions allow decreases fuel consumption. Proper care of vehicle, i.e. check tuning, tyre pressure, brakes, fuel consumption and regular servicing helps keep your car efficient and saves fuel.
