people we pass by

..there are many people who live on the streets that are homeless and are people we no longer notice as we pass by them. we should be aware that whenever we look down on or ignore the poor man in the streets, the disadvantage family, or the homeless youth , we scorn their very existence, deny their equality and fail to recognize that the God of the universe created them. not to disrespect the poor is to recognize their right to life, their integral value. it is to acknowledge that they have been created with amazing potentials, anything less than this and we fail to estimate them for their true worth. understanding this, we will show them more compassion. and remember he who mocks the poor reproaches his maker.

Agreed:-) In my part (Sindh) such situation is getting worst due to the great devastation caused by the massive flood. Life has been miserable not for only children but for all ages because most of the families lost a lot. It requires serious attitudes to address their miseries seriously.

Agree... we have to be more concerned about these people, they deserve a better life than their lives, believing in humanity and actually applying what we must apply, we should love, care, spread peace...
we ask for justice but are we doing it!

Every time I see or pass by someone lying down on the sidewalks, my heart just sinks. I can't believe people (including me) just walk by them not seeming to care at all. I mean they're treated unlike humans. They've come on this planet the same way everyone else has. And they also deserve some dignity and life that they want. We need to show them that we know they're there and that we care. If we could just help them get on track. We as humans should take this responsibility since we're dealing with none other than humans themselves. Please don't ignore these people and care!

Is there anything we can do as individuals to help them?
I've always wanted to buy someone lunch, but wonder if perhaps it's too condescending...?
Does anyone have any ideas? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- please vote for me for the opportunity of a lifetime!

My suggestion is we need to make a project, by making visibility studies, and create fund raising programs. And then make awareness campaign to inform them that we have food for them and we can sponsor some of them by starting with 10 peoples and see how it will work, logged those 10 peoples and give them facilities that can make them feel that they are part of us.

I had also thought it might seem condescending to give a homeless couple I met my lunch. However, I simply asked them if they were hungry first, and then they gratefully accepted the food.
I think you just need to ask them if they want anything first, and if they are offended, just apologize and leave. I'm sure they won't though because they can probably understand that you're trying to help

I feel so strongly about this issue, mainly because i have recently become very fond of the homeless. I've been volunteering at my local mission here in Az, and i'm honestly amazed as to how many people are in need of our help. It's heartbreaking to know that many of these people are single mothers with children, young teenagers, even elderly. i feel that they could really benefit from our help, but it definatley has to come from our hearts. we have to really mean to help them and not expect anything in return, as i see people come and donate food, clothes, simple necessities to the mission, yet they tell us that they are only doing it to claim it on their taxes. this is disgusting to me because they are obviously only helping because they want to benefit something from it.

Hello! I saw your comment asking if there was anything we could do. I saw something in a magazine that I think is a fantastic idea- purchasing a few cheap, travel size necessities like toothpaste, to go packs of peanut butter, energy bars, etc and putting them in a ziploc bag in your purse to easily hand to them while walking by. It's not much to get their life back on track, but its an easy thing to hand them that will go a long way and, who knows, maybe it will touch them in a way we can not forsee.
