Has anyone watched this youtube video that has been very popular lately of a Pakistani actress debating with an Imam about her role as an entertainer and how she is perceived in Pakistan?

Click here for the youtube video

Thoughts?

Muslims cannot point one succesful Islamic state in this world. The whole of middle east is in turmoil in part because their women population is unproductive. The role of muslim women is child bearing and the men pray five times a day. Muslim ladies like Veena Malik have their role seriously curtailed by Islam.

The point of this thread was not an open invitation to attack Muslims, Muslim countries, nor Muslim practices. Mike, I don't believe your points are actually valid or constructive in any way, and only serves the dominant Islamophobic discourse in the West. The point of this video was to show that Muslim women actually do have a voice, and a very strong one at that (as you can see in the video), and there are mainstream platforms and avenues where patriarchy is criticized. You also come from a country where there has never been a female president, and are criticizing a country that has had a female prime minister.

This is not to excuse the oppression that women face in Pakistan, but to also acknowledge that when you speak of patriarchy as having a role in the mistreatment of women, that this is not just a problem that feminists/women's rights activists are fighting in Muslim countries, but in every country in the world, including yours, sir. Let's also not ever forget the impact that western colonialism has had on countless places, and how this has served to undermine the progress of everything from women's rights movements, to indigenous land right's movements, even today.
