Open Office is a good free alternative if you don't have access to Microsoft products in your location/country.

But how can you edit an image in MS Word. You can only resize it. No you are not wrong. MS Word is a word processor. You can insert images, but you will only be able to resize/place within the document. If you want to do image editing, you'll need a photo editor.
Photoshop is a popular choice, however might not be available for you. GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) is a free alternative. It will do pretty much everything Photoshop will.

Yes, I've used Photoshop. But GIMP is something new to me. Thank you for sharing the link, Rob. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolute Steel— Steel building and carport kits with nationwide jobsite delivery.
