Today we are going to speak about local food.I am from Prague,Czech Republic. We don´t have sea. And our food is ifluence by it. Our cuisine is quite rich in fat and not very healthy. My favorite food is steak with potatoes and vegetables. What do you think of your national cuisine? What is your favourite food?

I’ve never quite figured out how to define ‘American’ cuisine - it’s either barbecue and grilling or the more expensive blend of a pile of cultures. I like both of these, though my favorite foods tend to be asian - particularly Thai.
I wouldn’t say that your diet being rich in fat is necessarily bad - it depends on portion sizes and what types of fat you eat. Steak, potatoes and carrots seems pretty robust, particularly if a lot of it is fairly fresh - over here we tend to have a lot of highly processed food with a lot of additives that reduce the nutritional quality of food, leading to a variety of problems. What’s the overweight percentage in the Czech Republic?

In the Czech republic there are about 68 per cents women and 72 per cents men with overweight.

Growing your own food is the best local food ever! It's really easy and fun!
Keeping bees is also great fun, and bees greatly help with plant pollination and maintaining biodiversity, as well as supplying you with yummy honey. Give it a go! It can be juggled with a job, I promise!
Big.Love.

I agree with Tom that growing your own food will become more popular. The issues of industrialized farming, chemical residues and overall sustainability of current farming practices is waking up people to the necessity of local sources for food. I would add the issue of local resilience--when the oil runs out, who will feed us? Modern agriculture is heavily fossil fuel-dependent for everything from tractors, to fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides.
I think we should all reacquaint ourselves with local, seasonal food products. Although I live in a city, I am helping a friend in the countryside with his large vegetable garden on weekends. Making honey (or encouraging bees to make it for us) would be a great skill to have. Do you know how, Tom?

I am learning with my friend (who has a big garden) but there's plenty of advice out there!

Hey Tom!
That's a very interesting beekeeping website. Now I'm interested in beekeeping! No, no, I can't take on another "fantasy hobby". I should really concentrate on the fantasy hobbies I am already not doing.
But fear not! Today, in two hours, I am heading out to the countryside where I have volunteered to help a friend prepare his vegetable patches for the planting season. I will actually get my hands dirty! Hurray!
You should keep a diary of your beekeeping or blog about it. I would certainly read it.

Thanks for the support prieten47! Have fun getting green fingers!
I may well put up a blog; I'm in the middle of final year exams, so it might be a while before we get it set up though! I will let you know!
Big.Love.

Unfortunately, it rained last Saturday, and my friend in the country called to cancel my visit.
Good luck with your exams! I watched your video. Pretty good!
