How can youth help achieve the 8 Millenium Development Goals by 2015??
March 3, 2011 - 03:46 AM

Hi guys! I'm entering a Model UN speech competition on this very topic. I have a few ideas of my own but I would like to know other opinions or your ideas on how we as youth can:
1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality & empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental stability
8. Ensure a global partnership for development

Please pitch in your part! How can youth help achieve the 8 Millenium Development Goals by 2015?

Young people will have to start implementing their ideas in their own small ways in their communities and stop waiting for support which never materialise.

I am not saying supports are not good, but lets start doing something.

I fully agree with both of you! But what are some practical things we can start doing now? I.e. Taking Informantion Technology global, we can help to spread universal primary education to areas where qualified teachers are rare.

I have a few more questions I'm just dying to ask you too.

Why must youth be the ones to help achieve these goals? What can we do today to help achieve them in our communities? When do you think we will really achieve these goals by? Which goal is most able to be achieved by youth?

Just generating some interest! Please post people big grin

Youth are the future so their involement is paramount. Despite youth being the majority, they are the most impoverished group. Thus, to fight 4 DMGs its ideal 2 fight poverty amongst youth.

An ideal scenario is to support youth through Innovative Innitiatives they draw rather than imposing Income generating projects. The ealier create ownership stregthening sustainability.

If the poverty is reduced so is any humanitarian assistance previously wanted eased.

Note youth mobility remains a challenge as they are commited to other things lyk educatio and seeking employment

In our lavish society today where we can get almost anything ewe want, we need to take the time to recognize the difference between our WANTS and our NEEDS. Too often we allow our wants to become our Needs. Learning to appreciate more of what we are blessed with may help us realize the difference and enable us to find happiness, fulfillment and contentment.

Well personally i think what the youth should do first is be environment friendly and do their bit for the environment. It's not like we aren'tdoing anything about it but i think we should start from there.

we have to form coalition groups within our respective nations, these groups will act as pressure groups to influence some level of liberal thinking especially when it comes to gate keepers...we get the gate keepers to think they way we think, we will be solid...solid as a rock..Young people of the world can do this with one voice..

Hi There ANNA !! You put together quite an ambitious "TO DO" List...

1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
2. Achieve universal primary education
3. Promote gender equality & empower women
4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases
7. Ensure environmental stability
8. Ensure a global partnership for development

These are my solutions, but they only work if everyone gets off their asses and follows through;

1. Grow an organic vegetable garden and give the harvest to the needy.
2. Tutor and be a mentor for the academically challenged.
3. Listen to women and do what they ask of you, even if it sounds a bit kinky or twisted.
4. Do not have children to begin with. This also addresses #1. #3. #5 and #7.
5. See #4.
6. Practice safe sex often and stay away from mosquitos and sick people.
7. Ride a bicycle everywhere you go and do not join the Military.
8. Join a youth movement like Freegans for example.. And be commited

Youth are leader of today leading for tomorrow. We need real youth participation in high level of meetings like UN and Commonwealth. The is no need to put more effort to a generation that is phasing out.

TO achieve all these objectives, one has to practise self-correction and educate others the dire consequences of not considering these issues.

Self-correction I mean here is, few are in a misconception that development is confined to individual, people who think so, recollect that one hand cannot clap. Suppose in a society, if one is rich and rest are around the poverty line, people of latter class will face lot of difficulties in their day to day life.

Awareness is the ultimate weapon to fight any crisis.
