Two-way radios for peace in DRC
February 9, 2011 - 04:33 PM

Hi- So my organization (resolvenetwork.org) wants to provide two-way radios to women in South Kivu (Bukavu, Congo) as a security measure. The idea is that they will receive training on using the radios and then someone at a regional hospital will listen in for any calls and can then alert MUNUSCO (UN mission on the ground) to any threats. We want this to be like calling 911...they'll know help is on the way if they call to say militias have entered their village.

This is inside of our microlending program with these women and is another way they can promote peace, by being leaders and enforcing some sense of security in a very violent, conflict ridden area which has been dubbed "the rape capital of the world."

Thoughts or ideas on this project are welcome!!!
