Is BIG BROTHER watching you
December 10, 2010 - 04:17 PM

With ever smaller technology appearing each year and RFID technology meaning we can put microscopic markers on almost anything. Should we be worried.

HI! Bob.

About 35 years ago my father who worked for the government and was an engineer and inventor was worried about the technology as he was involved in research and the making of little glass capsules that would contain every kind of information from credit cards to drivers licence information. He talked about the subject with others he worked with while they all laughed nervously as I watched.

I am not worried about the technology as there is a useful side but I do worry about the way society is becoming more paranoid with being watched and also becoming viewers. Once people start getting the idea to place these devices everywhere then the level of trust between people will disappear.

The coincidence that I have another friend who use to work at NASA and left to work specifically on RFIC just a few years back and he telling me of how far things have moved is not a surprise but too far will happen the same way wikileaks seems to just have happened when information wars have been spoken of in rooms while people worked on computers long ago.

The technology is not new. What people are thinking to do with the technology was made into movies long ago. Time will move into people everywhere spying on the privacy of innocent victims. Where is everything in the world leading at the present time?

I am more concerned about the casual public use of cheap miniscule listening and recording devices. There is an APP out for Iphone which causes it to start recording when it hears sound. So watch out everyone, don't have a rant about your partner behind their back without sweeping the room for bugs first.

This is where I think the technology could damage society.

Of course BB could plant a mini bug in my house, but he could have done that 10 years ago. Society decides in this case what they are able to do with any information gathered.

That's why Big Brother needs to be changed to Big Mother as there are no Men behind the controls but little bee-chess in uniforms.

I don't think we should be worried, if you are scared go do some more research smileNothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood.

I had a friend who said that just before he was eaten by a crocodile.

Seriously though. there's plenty out there to be scared of. We live in a democracy, relatively freedom from persecution. If wikki leaks is right and the world is being taken over by evil geniuses we are in great danger.

How long before technology can be used to force compliance on the public.

Imagine a small electronic wasp with a deadly sting. Thousands of them programmed to listen for insurrection and re-act accordingly.

My belief is that we have a benign government, but if i'm wrong......

I had a friend who said that just before he was eaten by a crocodile.

lol I get your point but if your friend had read up on crocodiles before he met one he might not have got so close! smile

I don't mean we should be blaise about the threat of big brother - ID cards, microchips etc. but we can't live in fear of these things.

I think the government is far from benign but I would rather make sure I know what they are doing than be scared about what they might do.

Aye, but that wont stop them doing it.

I try to think well of the people who govern us. After all they are just people. Some are good some not so and generally we only hear about the bad ones.
My Point.
If we keep rounding on the government (people) for all the bad stuff but NEVER recognise the good work done, then the good folks become disprited and leave. Then what stops the tyrants doing what they wish.

All the protests in the world haven't stopped one dictatorship.

Churchill said
"Democracy is the most corrupt form of government there is. Apart from all the other forms."

So perhaps Wiki leaks could release some good news every now and then, for they are just as guilty of peddling fear as any government.

A fair point about the ol' wikileaks - the documents have been pretty negative so far, but then they don't actually promote the stories. The ones that reach the general public are "peddled" by the mainstream media. No conspiracy there, it's just that controversy sells better than "everything is ok" wink

You do like having a debate with yourself tho - on one hand they might be out to tag us all with microchips, while on the other you want to see the best in them.. kinda conflicting.

I know what you mean tho - it would be pretty hard to get out of bed if you honestly believed that everyone who had power over your life was a lying scumbag. However it would probably be harder to leave the house if you believed the government had employed an army of micro-bees to listen in on your conversations about wikileaks! big grin

Maybe it is high time some of the virtuous politicians were praised.. I guess we've got to wait for one to show him/her self first! lol

The point I'm making is that Wikileaks is not going to protect you from a corrupt government. Mugabe ran a corrupt government, everyone knows, but nothing stopped him killing people.
The killer bees thing is to demonstrate what a truly corrupt western government could do, thus demonstrating that we don't have a truly corrupt western government (the killer bees really do exist, in trials at the moment, coming soon) I see whats happening to the U.S and its scary. Look what they've done to Assange, just out of spite. More and more they act with impunity, confident that the large majority of ignorant frightened Americans will follow the party line. If we the folks who take the time to find out are to win this fight, we need to use politic and guile. Screaming from the roof tops just allows 'them' to point and say "look everyone LOONIES"

Good point - we can't expect wikileaks to change the world overnight. I was referring to reading to knowing what was going on by reading a wide range of materials. For example, did you know that the Rothschilds helped to write the constitution for Mugabe's government? Things are rarely as they seem, as the general population is starting to find out.

Sorry but i had to quote this:
..thus demonstrating that we don't have a truly corrupt western government (the killer bees really do exist, in trials at the moment, coming soon)
My apologies if it was a joke but do you not see the condradiction here??

Spot on about the control the US has over their population, you almost have to admire their work in a Hitler-esque way! I think their actions toward Mr Assange have come out of fear breeding anger as they don't know how to deal with the situation. Maybe it's because they have a lot more to hide, but I like to think they're pist off and throwing the toys out the pram smile

I found a really good article explaining why wikileaks isn't actually breaking any laws..

http://www.lasisblog.com/2010/11/12/wikileaks-has-committed-no-crime/

The last I heard the US want him extradited on charges of handling stolen goods! lol

what worries me now is that they could be using media coverage of the court case to detract from the truths being released. You probably heard already but a new site: openleaks.net is due to launch Monday thanks to colleagues of Mr Assange.

Peace

Its my fault for writing it in 'shorthand' and expecting you to fill in the gaps. So I suppose it should have read.

The killer bees thing is to demonstrate what a truly corrupt western government could do, thus the fact that they have such things which they could easily use to control us, BUT choose not to do so demonstrates that we don't have a truly corrupt western government (the killer bees really do exist, in trials at the moment, coming soon)

How easy would it be to find Assange dead in his flat from a 'heart attack'
Plenty of countries already behave this way!

Those who wish to monitor us don't have to plant physical bugs in our homes any more. EVERYTHING that EVERYONE does on the internet is monitored 27/7 by supercomputers at the CIA. These computers are programmed to flag key words and phrases to alert the government of the USA whenever anyone anywhere in the world says anything the is of interest to them at the time.
Social media is primarily financed by the CIA as well to gain access to our communications and thoughts along with our personal information.
Google has located cameras EVERYWHERE. What do you suppose they need to see and who do you suppose ultimately receives what is recorded? The technology and the hardware was most certainly supplied by government agencies.
I can guarantee you that this conversation is being flagged and watched closely.

HI! Ronzig the Wizard:

You mean like if I write that the U.S. is a Terrorist Organization which sets out to control and destroy others while bringing in drugs through a professional military escort and killing people such as those in Pakistan that were just hit by U.S. missiles that never seem to miss the civilians etc...?

Or something to that effect they will know about what I write? OH NO! OH MY. Now maybe I should be more careful... Or NOT!!! HaHaHa...
