Looking for incite on media in England and Ireland

Hey,
My name is Mike Arden i live in Richmond Virginia, USA. I am working with a teacher at my university teach a class on world media. I am trying to help a group work on a presentation for our class on why media is really big in England but not so much in Ireland. They are trying to figure out why, or if there is a reason for it like the government is trying to keep culture and so on. I figured what better way then to ask people who actually live there and in it. Any help or incite would be awesome!

Hi,
As a Brit I would gladly help with your research if it isn't too late already. However I have to admit I am slightly confused by your question. "Media" is an extremely general term - from tv, radio, to newspapers and magazines.. I am not aware of a vast difference in the use of media between Ireland and England in any specific area.
I don't think there is any government - driven agenda behind the popularity of various media outlets. One possibile reason that you see a larger variety of outlets in England may be because of a more diverse population - people from almost every country in the world travel to, and reside in London and the surrounding areas.
Please feel free to message me if you would like to discuss it further.
Kind regards, Jay.

Hi Mike.
Another possible reason for the amount of media content in the UK is demand. The English have a veracious appetite for news. A a rule we are much more interested in the world around us than say the French, although I don't know if thats true of the Irish.
