media: An International/national development or simply commercialization ?

Media has certainly taken a huge step in this era.
But with modern technology, reality is being manufactured & they have begun to associate happiness with acquisition.
But can we say it's running only towards commercialization or does development still lies as their major Priority?
If yes, then can the over growing pace of media commercialization come down to balanced media-growth?

Well explained Alex. Furthermore, I would recommend a book by Noam Chomsky entitled Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media. It deals thoroughly with the issue of media manipulation.

In the case of Noam Chomsky,Ilan Pappé, Norman Finkelstein, and their likes; they are denied entry to Israel based on their expressed opinion regarding the Jewish State.
However, many people are denied entry for more lunatic reasons, such as this lady who was denied entry at the Ben Gurion Airport in Tel-Aviv only because the reason of her visit was to see her Palestinian fiancé who lives in the occupied West Bank:
