The Body

The body is like a prison,
That arrests the soul
And makes it suffer
That is punished by life
That is hurt incessantly
That is controlled vilely
That is violated by conceptions
And covered by masks
The body is a morbid mass,
Beautiful in shapes
But poor in meanings.

This poem is filled with wonderful imagery and ideas. Yet I think it takes a wholly negative view of the body. The many acts that the soul is willing to do is only made possible by the body. While we may feel limited by this 'morbid mass', it allows expression to thrive. Think of all the beautiful items that we would miss if we did not have our bodies. This poem makes very important points, and picks up emotions that many of us feel but as in all nature there are two sides that we must look at.

I must confess , I like her poem .It carries a lot of messages which expose the secret of the body. Everything she says about the body true ; I enjoy the poem. Keep it up.

The poem are just words, good words; thanks... It's what we do in real life that makes tha path true.... live and share with all...

Great poem! Nothing like prayer/meditation to give the soul a "furlough" from the prison of the body.

I don't see the body as a prison but a temple
I see that the mind percieves the body as a prison
hence the education/conditioning of centuries we've 'enjoyed'
Most are so disconnected from the body that the abilities
of the body are not conceived and therefore not expressed and experienced. Yes, lots of meditation needs to be done by everyone in order for us to realize our universe within
