This reminds me of the year 2000. There was a lot of talk going on about how the world is about to end. It didn't.

The following is a quote from the beginning of an article titled The Future.
Like most people, you've probably often wondered what the world is coming to, in terms of both the short-term and long-term future. You’ve probably wondered if the pessimists and cynics are right about the future being bleak. And you've probably also wondered (if only in the back of your mind) if the preachers of doom are correct in claiming that prophecies in the Bible actually foretell the end of the world.
As you probably already know, there are many preachers of doom who claim that we are witnessing the “signs” that mean “the end of the world” is coming. There are many people who believe in other prophecies that predict “the end” on a certain date, such as the one about 2012. But, I’m here to tell you they are simply wrong — fundamentally wrong.
What they do not understand is that the prophesied signs precede the coming of the “son of man,” the witness-servant-messenger of God and the Spirit of truth, who issues judgment, guides you unto truth, shows you things to come, and glorifies God and the Ancient One who is in heaven with God. Even the Prophet-Christ-Avatar Jesus (or Yeshuah), who spoke for and as the Ancient One, said so.
The signs are the consequences of conflict and division, and of greed, corruption, hate and violence, and they include wars and rumors of war, the seven plagues (earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, diseases, pestilence, famines, floods and droughts), and “many other terrible things,” as Jesus put it.
But, the great Jesus of Nazareth was not alone in foreseeing it. Many other preceding Jewish prophets, along with the prophets of most other religions, foresaw that we would be suffering from this terrible tribulation and ordeal, caused by the consequences of the words and actions of greedy, corrupt, power-hungry, self-important, self-righteous, proud and militant people who claim to be religious and/or patriotic.
The good news, however, is that we the people shall overcome. We, the great, vast majority of people who are humble, gentle, kind, generous, tolerant, understanding, charitable and peaceful, shall inherit the earth, and we shall make this world a far better place. And I am here to tell you why you can have hope and faith in a brighter future.
Continued at The Future.

Another way to look at 2012 is to consider the fact that the original Mayan prophecy actually foresaw and foretold the end of an age as they reckoned it.
And, speaking of ages, some of you may find this interesting too. It's an excerpt from Adamson's article about The End of an Age. And I quote:
While a lot of people have thought the new age would begin in the Christian Year A.D. 2000, that is not actually the case. Contrary to popular belief, an age is a little more than two thousand years. As I understand it from the most knowledgeable source I’ve found, the length of an age is 2,166 years, since there are twelve world ages in a great world cycle of 26,000 years. So, we have indeed entered a new century and new millennium according to the Christian calendar, but we have not yet entered a new age.
As I understand it, the new age will not begin until around the year 2133 according to the Christian calendar. Of course, that’s not written in stone. It’s just my calculation based on the assumption that Jesus’ birth may have marked the beginning of the passing age, which means it has been 2,034 years so far, with 132 years to go – approximately speaking. The point is that the age of conflict and division is ending, and a new age will begin fairly soon.
Indeed, we have been and are experiencing the end of an age and the “dawning” of the new age, and it will get brighter and brighter (in a spiritual sense) as we get closer. We have for awhile been in the “cusp” between the ages, and still are, where we have begun to feel the effects and characteristics of the new age — especially in the desire for liberation, justice, equity, peace, and freedom. In fact, we felt some of the effects of the new age for most of the twentieth century, and its effects are gradually becoming closer to being equal to the effects of the passing age.
For example, using the air as a means for travel and communication is very much an effect of the coming Aquarian Age, as is the desire for harmony, real equality, and liberation from all kinds of oppression and repression. So we have been feeling what is coming for awhile, even though the often divisive influences of the passing age have been somewhat stronger.

Will the world end in 2012?
For some it will,
But the end of this world, is not that close in sight.
What is, is the full rotaation around out star system,'
as the world Travels into a new age
But the world prodictions of its End of Day's
has been called for almost every year if you add all the fear mongers, lists togther!!
I think
that 2012
is a Time of Change, Not Death
offend missunderstood, as any Change is Scary if you are traveling into the Unknown

I don't think the conspiracy about 2012 is true. well i think in my religious perspective, which states many facts and events which will occur before the end of world. Some of those facts or events has been already seen by humans, some of them are yet to come.
So i dont think that in just 2 years all those remaining facts or events will be seen by humans, because based on the current facts it seems it is still early.

You are correct. The original Mayan prophecy merely foretells the end of an age as they calculated it, which ends in 2012 according to the Mayan calendar.
Also, not coincidentally, it coincides with the prophecies of most other world religions, including Christianity, of the end of the age and the beginning of the new. (Read The End of an Age.)

OKAY SERIOUSLY?? People always believe the world is going to end when its not. For example Y2K. YEAH IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. This is just some way some idiot is trying to lure people into a cult of some sort saying that they will survive. When people are desperate, they will do desperate things to survive like for example steal jewellery for the cult leader.

I think that the idea of Fear Base, Fear Driven, cults, or groups, is a very valid, comment!
The use of Fear to rule over people to have them do what they would not usally do, is a very good point.
And it has been proven over and over again, threwout time, to be a very powerful tool, to missuse people, who get caught up in the flow of being accepted by those who are their peers.
To a Healthy Future

I really dont believe itll end in 2012. They said the same thing about 2000 and the world surely didnt end. Theyre even trying to back it up by saying that in the mayan civilization they predicted that the world would end in 2012, and ALSO, america is saying that a planet known as planet x is drawing closer to Earth. google planet x and you'll see.

I am so excited to see that someone has planeted the Planet X into a conversation.
What a wonderful concept it is, It is not one of my personal beliefs, but I have been enjoying the debts that are going on with the people in my area, who have stumbbled onto Planet X..
The sad part, is the Dooms day, and Fear that people spread.
The need to force people into panic
and rash actions, becuase of Fear
it is the thing, that when Orsean Wells did his radio broadcast, Aliens were coming, some people actuly killed their own childern, to save them from an Alien race.
Then to find out it was a hoax, like most things that generate that kind of Fear, they had become murders of their own flesh for nothing!
What a way to spend the rest of your life.
In situation, you can not correct!
That would be the worst Hell, I could think of!!!
Is the world going to end, NO not for everyone, but in Disasters, many die.
That is why cleaing the air, reducing the heat, and cleaning the water and soil are so important, because those who have no money, or choices, are the ones who are always first to go.
To a Long and Healthy Future
Love

It is so strange that we in the affluent West have nothing better to ponder than our own demise.
Now that we no longer fear being eaten by wild animals or if we can find a safe place to sleep for the night and if we can find enough to eat, we have to worry that the world is coming to an end. It could be a strange calendar, the ozone layer, a hole over the poles, global warming, a strange rogue planet or little green men from outer space.
What a strange set of creatures we are. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

I don't really think the world will in 2012. It's just too unlikely. The world isn't going to end until the sun explodes imo. That is a LONG ways off so we should just sit back and enjoy it I suppose. Whatever happens, won't happen in our lifetime. Even if it does, humans will adapt. Humans have always adapted. xD If I'm wrong, may I be thrown to the natural disasters.
