Kristin yes i agree you are very correct.
I am coloured and Zimbabwean of different African nationalities. What Im writing about is I have seen I know.Small white minorities own the wealth,land,media and everything.
White families beacause of colonialism and their greedy nature are not giving up they goods they got through a possession of stealing by they forefathers and they themselves as well.White people in Africa are turning blind eye to issues that really push more poverty and crime against them.
White people are living in nice big houses and black people are living in shacks and are miserable in povety and they think crime will save them from stavation and they steal from white people.Black people have no money and no acces to education so they cannot improve they bad situation.Not just in Africa in Asia in Europe in America in Australasia.
My white mother is driving my father's car in South Africa or Botswana with me. No one is stopping him.Like you Kristin no stopping at roadblock no searching,no sirens no traffic cops nothing.
My black father is driving his car in South Africa with me. Traffic cops and South African police, they stop him they want to know where he works how he affords his car.They ask him if he really really bought it or he bought a stolen car.Me and my father they say pull over they want to search the car theay search the car and want proof the car belongs to my father.They ask him what he wants in South Africa.This happen 90% of all the time Im with him.
Why? White privilege.
My mother goes to a drive-thru or restaurant in Swaziland, people call her "Mam,how can I help you" and they serve her very fast and nicely. My father goes to same places.They give him some look like they saying "Good heavens,what the heck do you want", they say to him "can I help you"?what happened to Sir?
Small irony is that white privilege is not majority linked.in my country white people suffer and the whole world is crying foul(white people suffer as much as colored people) . Im not saying white people must be victimised becaues of color or numbers or history or any reason. but me i am saying those people who have the power to change the world are racist and most of white people are holding on to the white privillege.
Me I have seen bad tings happening in mozambique and swaziland countries next to zimbabwe.but international community cares not.Because is not white people suffering in those countries.In Swaziland there is big big starving and big political repression. You know why is not in the news? white privilege. Because white privilege is not tampered wit. But in Zimbabwe,everyone today know where Zimbabwe is because?????? White privilege is taken away. White privilege exist. Is 3 o clock and those people are in the news again. White privilege makes me sick and white denial make me sick. Your truth about white privilege give me a small hope.Will the world change ever?
Minority or majority whites are very bad and greedy,and they hold on to evil power.There is some good white people in Europe and outside Europe.White privilege is big irony hurts people of color.It is 2003,not 450.Not being white is killing us.
How quickly was Kosovo issue resolved? How long is Congo issue hanging? Do yo think if Israel and Palestine positions were opposite (if it was Palestine victimising and oppressing Israel and ocupying against UN),you think international community would not intefered verbally and physically? They call Kofi Annan cheeky darkie and is all right because they cannot be called racists,they cant be condemened as barbaric.
Carry on on you racists. God loves us all.White privilege is not good

I agree with dltq.
Zanzibar, please don't think that we ignore you. Poverty breaks my heart. We in North America have so much and we own so many things that we do not need and we ignore the dire need in African countries such as your own. I wish there was more I could do. The distribution of wealth in this world is sickening.

dear zanzibar,
I can understand your rage, your anger, against the racists. But, as you also know yourself, not every white man is a racist. Besides, once you Accept and Uphold the color terms by talking about "white people" and "colored people", you are also helping support the racism. About Zimbabwe; No, I do not know the whole situation there, but I have earlier talked with (black) student leaders from the University in the capital there, and some of them are really facing a terrible time due to, for instance, the tuition costs rising about - what was it 4000%? The privatisation of the economy on the one side, and the despotic regime on the other, is hurting the people of Zimbabwe, regardless of color. This major opponent politician who was arrested a short time ago, he was not white, but black. But again, I don't know the whole situation 
The question is: What can we do? What can we do to help the situation? Well, firstly, we must communicate more. And be more open-minded. We must also face the racist in ourself. Face this devil within us, and battle it. I know several people who say "oh, I am not racist, of course", but then I see them looking at a black guy driving a fancy Mercedes, and they frown, and it's almost like they want to ask "did this guy steal that car?" and I realise that their liberal view is just old-fashioned, boring political correctness!
We must abandon PC; we must abandon fakeness and hypocricy. We must fight for a more fair world, and it sure does not help to look at the world then in terms of black/white/red/yellow. We are formed by our society, and our views on other people are often formed by a multitude of different things. Media is but one of these. Another is role models. I am not just talking about the need of having more black role models (and not just bling bling black hip hop artists in the United States), but we need to open our perspectives to the individuals.
Again, I understand your anger and disappointment. I too think that the situation in Congo and other places in Africa need far more attention in the world. We cannot ignore a slaughtering of thousands of people just because it happens in some African country, and not in New York City.

I think one of the saddest things I've seen in "within group" racism (I'm sure there's a better term, but I don't know it).
When I was in the Solomon Islands about 8 years ago, I was checking into a hotel at the same time as a guy from Fiji. The Solomon Islander hotel clerk (black) was as rude as possible to the Fijian (also black), while going out of his way to be kind and helpful to me.
Who is really the racist in this scenario? It has less to do with the colour of the perpetrators skin and more to do with a state of mind.
These kinds of things can only happen when a culture has totally internalized a sense of inferiority... it's hard as an outsider to know what to do.

Hmmm I'm not sure it can be called within group racism. I mean the situation existing in that circumstance in the Solomons was the fact that a white person is uncommon in a place like that and in that case there is accessibility there. A white person to them might represent money to the hotel owners rather than a person who comes from the same race.

dltq and tigerlily i apreaciate and thank you for your contributions. Please forgive me if I sounded like madcap (perhaps I was mad at that point in time).But I do mean these things, I share yours sentiments too. DLTQ is a very good thing you mentioned you dont know the whole situationn in Zim.Before I go any further I summarize it for you: THINGS ARE BAD IN ZIMBABWE!!!
Race is no issue everyone is suffering, Morgan Tsvangirai is definitely black(he looks black, not so). Welshman Ncube is black and many many other politicians who suffered the president's unfair handedness.
In Swaziland things are much worse.In Congo things are crazy, in Sudan it is unbeleivable. Many many countries in Africa face worse situation than Zimbabwe. Our country next door Mozambique is ten times worse than Zimbabwe. Sierra Leone, not Zimbabwe,but Sierra Leone (their capital is Freetown) has really really totally collapsed.Education is eitheir a big big privilege or totally not existing in Sierra Leone.
My point is simple. Why Zimbabwe has drawn too much attenction is because the president took away white privileges.In Tanzania no white no black people own no land. THe lad belongs to ALL people equally.That is no issue?When the president takes land from these few white farmers who have connections with London and Elizabeth or Charles and all their royal and colonial history it becomes big issue.
When Freetown is under constant povety and insurgency 24 hrs a day, 60 minutes an hr and 60 seconds a minute no one says nothing.When King Mswati III says no political activity in Swaziland and kidnaps children, no one calls it power abuse or human rights abuse or child abuse.Why, there is no reason whites are not affected.
Why Zim gets all the attention is because equally as blacks suffer but whites suffer.That is teh bottomeline.Whites suffer.
Taikod,you see exactly my point about my father who happens to be black. The traffic cops and South African police, and those people at Swaziland restaurants are also black and also white.So who is victimising him like badly? Blacks as well.The Fijian story I relate to. Because i resemble my mother i get treated like you [I DO DREAD THAT "WHITE" TREATMENT}.So because I cant tell them but hey guys Im colored I am always quick to denounce hypocrisy and point these things out(that works).Something that works for me as well in refusing "WHITE PRIVILEGE" is my name which is obviously black. iT's hard Taikod, verey very hard!!!!!
Johanes is right about white representing money... but we must change these things.i even know of other stories...
I am not saying im not racist. I am racist but really really hate it.I am unhappy racist!!!!!!!!!!

thank you for sharing your experiences. white privlidge is a very very serious thing... it is funny that dlqt bashed liberalism, but touted that same old p.c. line "there is no such thing as race". denying the lables of race is in a way ignoring white privlidge. white privlidge is something that i walk with every day. it is how my immigrant grandparents "passed" in america and were able to suceed, while other immigrants were segregated and used as stepping stones to others prosperity. it is why i am writing to you from a huge old "colonial style" house in takoma park, where no more than three blocks down large apartment buildings are stuffed full of people of colour.
white privlidge makes me very sad, and sometimes feels paralyzing. what can i do? i am only one person? i think that you have a big point that it is white people who have power, and it is up to white people to expose the racist system that grants them that power and deconstruct it piece by piece.
