How important is your native or ethnic language in shaping you?

The society is gradually pushing aside the need to pass on their native dialects/languages (especially in the developed world)inherited from their fore fathers down to their offspring. They regard it as an archaic or 'Old School' way of life.
What can be done to salvage this situation?

Basically our native language is the most important language and should be preffered over english. I totally agree with the fact that English has gained superiority over other languages who have gone under negligence but our native language or our mother tongue is a part of who we really are. It reflects upon our culture therefore we should work towards enriching it. This could be done primarily by the youth of the country. We should produce articles in our native language which in my case is Urdu. This will help us in not only preserving but will also add to the rich literary background that Urdu already has.

for me is really important where i'm from, cuz it represent whi am i and the role that i represent in this society.

My native language was the key to the door of rationality. Yes, when I studied the translation Of Qur'an, in Tamil; it not only shaped my thoughts, but my entire way of life.
Nobody can deny the respect and love, a mother deserves. Such is the status of one's native language.

A lot can be learned from one's native language such as culture, way of life, etc. We should nourish it as it represents who we are.
