Anti-Gay Hate Crimes

Remember Matthew Shepard? He was the 21 year old guy from Wyoming who was murdered for being gay. Well, 5 years later, and his legacy needs to be continued.
Rev. Phelps, an anti-gay protester in the US, is planning to erect a memorial to Matt Shepard stating that "Matthew Shepard entered Hell on 12 October 1998".
There is a new Group which is a tribute to Matt and also a resource site for gay and human rights. Also, there is a link on that site to sign an online petition against Rev. Phelps' monument, plus a picture of what the monument is meant to look like.

This man needs to be stopped. Sign the petition and let's all have a voice!

Yeah, heard about this on the news. Apparently, his move to erecting the monument has garnered a lot of support.
It always saddens me, the way GLBTQ youth are treated by prominent people in the community. When Gwen Arujo (a transgendered youth) was murdered by four boys, anti-gay protestors decided to rally at her funeral.
Terrible. Thanks for bringing this incident to light. There are so many others that go unheeded.

And then there are Genitic mistakes but no one should have a say in how any one lives as long as their life style does no harm to inocents. Moses only said that sex for sex's sake is wrong and he was trying to raise an army. Jesus told us the same thing but He also told us that it is better to spew our Seed into the belly of a whore than to jerh off on a rock and He did not say for all of us to give up our wives, He was speaking to his twelve and only for a short time, that is why He did not marry. Saul/Paul put his 2 cents worth in and said that Woman was not worthy of speaking of God, because he had real problems dealing with women. And any way Jesus wrote His Bible in the sand for all to find, including the deaf, the dumb and the blind. And He told me that you need to write your own Bible and take all other Bibles with a grain of Salt, no matter what anyone says.

I disagree, Gene. That's pretty much a myth that many gay people tell themselves to make it seem like homophobic people are acting primarily out of insecurity. It makes homophobic people seem smaller and less scary. Which, while it's a nice coping mechanism to make oneself feel strong in comparison during confrontations... doesn't make it true. Sometimes hatred is just hatred, not some type of disguised insecurity.
And going into discussions with homophobic people by trying to tell them something about themselves (with which they would vehemently disgree) doesn't advance any type of dialogue or understanding whatsoever. It just pisses people off even more. I find that the position of strength is to just speak out of my own experiences and to let the other person do the same.
