Introduction
on a day to day basis, African youths are greatly faced with challenges of HIV/AIDS, unemployment, lack of opportunities for education and skills building, hunger, disease, war and other effects of economic deprivation. The formation of Africa youth Initiative Network-AYINET is one expression of intent by African youth leaders to take responsibility by consistently engaging African young leaders and builds sustainable capacity in them to confront Africa’s contemporary challenges.
THE ONE PEOPLE PEACE CAMPAIGN-OPPC
The one people peace campaign is one of the tools that AYINET can reach out to many African young people. The aim is to create a sense of African unity and pride. It focuses on bringing to the forefront the many positive actions and initiatives rarely highlighted on the continent where negative coverage of political corruption, civil wars, famine and HIV/AIDS dominate the headlines. Success in athletics, art, government, business and culture are examples where African achievement can be celebrated. The campaign seeks to show the will of the African people to transcend superficial differences based on clan, tribe, race, ethnic group, religion or spiritual belief to imbue a sense of common African destiny, while preserving the richness of this diversity. The harmonious co-existence of these many cultures adds to the wealth of the continent, rather than using differences as a source of conflict and tension.
OBJECTIVES OF THE CAMPAIGN
The main objective of this campaign is to raise social consciousness at community level among youth of the need to positively participate in promoting peace, dignity and socio economic and political interests of people of all races.
