If you hire a great speech writer, you might win the Nobel Peace Prize??

While fighting a war in Iraq and increasing the number of soldiers being sent into the Afghanistan War, President Obama has authorized the continued use of UAV's ( Unmanned aerial drones which fire hellfire missles ). These UAV,s have killed more innocent women and children along with few "suspected" terrorists in Obama's first year in office than have died in 8 years under the Bush administration. Oh, and let us not forget that Obama has quietly distanced himself from his previous promise to not allow the Israelis to continue building settlements on Palestinian land that they took by force and now illegally occupy with military assistance from the U.S.A. We have no peace on 3 fronts that the U.S.A is directly involved in. What sort of "international Peace" has Obama brought us that he deserves to win a Nobel Peace Prize for?? Mahatma Gandhi never received a peace prize, yet Kissinger and Obama did. Absolutely Absurd ! Give a few speeches, break a lot of promises and deliver on nothing and you too can win a Nobel Peace Prize.

Nobel has lost its value when It awarded to the head of a state which is responsible for global wars.

I still can't believe though that his speeches were written by someone else. Wow.

"Peace" prize? What peace? Obama continues the Afghanistan war against the Taliban (and here I agree), but despite reports the USA was "withdrawing its troops" from Iraq, they are still there. Peace? What peace? The Nobel prize judges ought to reconsider their ignoble decision and recind the award. I would award it, though posthumously, to Benazir Bhuto!

I feel divided over his nomination and win. I think it was wrong to nominate him after such a short time in office and before actually succeeding any of his "targets" for increasing world peace and strengthening international ties. But on the other hand I feel that this can be seen as an encouragement to other world leaders to work towards open dialogue and for collaboration.
The Noble Prize can also be seen as a burden on him as he now has even more to achieve. But we are living in an extraordinary time and hope many changes can be put into place.

What is going on here? I would like to know why the Nobel Society awarded this high award to Obama.
I am not anti Obama but come on!! What has the man done to qualify for this prestitious award.
I feel it a slap in the face for past or previous winner's of such an award.
I think this is another example of a antiquated society that has completely lost touch with the present.

The prize he won was for his ability to bring people together, whether thru speeches, candles, food etc. If you can unite people through a great speech whats the problem with that. Mahatma Ghandi and Martin luther did alot through speeches.
What of Rosseau and voltaire of the time of the french revolution? They were just writers werent they?

Though Obama did in a sense "unite" people all over the world who wished he became president, he hasn't yet had the time to take any steps towards resolving conflict and restoring peace. He might be a good human being, but awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to him was unjustified. gandhi and martin Luther King were also good at speeches but they achieved a change, and it didn't take a few months, but a few years. You can't award someone based on potential.

I agree, I was amazed that they awarded President Obama the Nobel Peace Prize. I understand his mission is to restore peace, but he should receive the prize only after accomplishing the mission. Think about it, they don't give a medal to all of the Olympians that TRY to win it....only to those that succeed!!
