hi friends,
firstly if ya see usage of polythene is has become a major threat to the environment. Of all the common & daily resources polythene has become a mojor threat as it EFFECTs environment. You see every common resource would be disposed off and decomposed in the environment by the help of sun, earth, rain and other factors. But you see this polythene, it cannot be disposable by itself with the means of the common factors of the earth even for as long as 100 years even though under intense heat. More over one way of disposing off polythene is by burning it which results in the releasing of poisonous gases which causes cancer and effect the environment and also the life on the planet.

I applaud your sentiments and am certain that its use should be kept to the minimum but an all out ban is not feasible.
I think it is used in making pipelines for water etc., which I think is a good thing. It is fast, fairly cheap and quite long lasting and easy to handle, making it an ideal material.
If we can come up with something better then a ban would make sense and I will lead the protest.

but as u said polythene is not being used in the making of pipes or any other things. The only purpose polythene is being used is in the making of shopping bags. All of these lots of polythene covers finally end up near lakes or rivers causing them blockage. As in the manufacture of pipes the element is not polythene, we can consider it in some cases as PLASTER OF PARIS & in some cases PLASTIC. So think of the idea of advertisement of banning of polythene. We can spread it all over the web. What do u say? I'll be waiting for your answer

Yes of course plastic bags are a scourge and they should be limited in use but polythene perse should not be banned for the reasons I gave.
Here in the UK they are being used quite extensively and I am sure that they are also used a lot around the world.
I know that they are detrimental to the health of fish and turtles as they mistake them for jelly fish and end up eating them.
We have to take on ourselves to reduce the use of plastic bags but the petrochemical industry is too big to take any notice of us small people calling for a ban.

I agree with Jo, simply eliminating the existence of polythene products is difficult, considering the variety of products that use it (construction, etc.). Plastic bags are a different issue. Manufacturers won't stop producing them if there is still a market for them. I think the solution lies in changing consumer habits, promoting the use of reusable fabric bags and the collection and recycling of the polythene bags.
I recently put together an event at my office where people could bring in 20 plastic bags in exchange for one reusable bag (purchased by my company). The event went over very well and we'll likely have another one in the future. Just a step in the right direction...

I agree with the ban on the use of plastic bags. I think more and more people are becoming aware of the issues of the plastic bags which is good. I see more people using reusable bags and more stores which do not offer plastic bags anymore.
