[Poll] Peace and Religion

I think most of the world can see that there are 'some' problems with all religions. Rather than carrying on the same way they have done for the last 2000 or so years - trying to create peace on earth and failing. Why can't they look again and re-evaluate what works and what doesnt? Throughout our history if something hasn't worked we have changed the process untill it does - science, technology, industry, economics, politics - all except religion - maybe its time they joined the revolution and lead the world to peace?
Any thoughts?

Would the world be a better place if religions had never condoned violence or taught of a violent god in anyway since they first began?

I am a Christian and I do believe in God. If we try to go and see beyond what is written in the Bible...or Koran...or the Torah... and really get into what is real and happening around us... Religion is what made things complicated.
Religion can never bring peace into this world. Because every mankind follows his own beliefs which was imposed by the religion he believes in; and in many circumstances makes him angry, or even hate those who believe otherwise. Every religion states that "our teaching is the right way"? and this can mean 5 different ways for the 5 different religions? Isn't that chaotic?
Today and in the future, for the world to be in peace is for man to be at peace with his self without any religious belief but the belief of existence and understanding each individuality.

I agree, but the point was that religions need to re evaluate these beliefs because they aren't working. They need to remove all violence from their texts and make clear the interpretations of everything they teach. I know it sounds impossible to do but all it needs is for one religion to lead the way.

I have a quite different point of view regarding religion. For instance, I cannot see the reason behind singling out religion as the sole reason behind the world's misery.
Imperialism, materialism, and all ideologies driven from them did create more suffering to the world on a scale never compared to religion.
Think about 15,000,000 African slaves between the 16th and the 19th century, the two World Wars, the 1,000,000 Algerians killed by the French alleged mission civilatrice, think about the Apartheid, the Stalinist concentration camps, Fascism, Racism, and the recent western hegemony...you'll know for sure what I mean, and there are some of countless examples.
On the contrary, in many cases it was religion that fostered peace, prosperity, and freedom: The Christian Abyssinian King Najashi was happy to host the early Muslim migrants and to grant them protection from the Arab Pagans. Nevertheless, it was Islam that protected the Sephardim Jews in Spain from the anti-semitic Crusades and their Inquisitions for almost 8 centuries, and when Spain finally fell to the Reconquista, the Ottoman Caliphate in Constantinople was happy to give refuge to the fleeing Sephardim, who had later become an essential pillar of the Ottoman economy.

I think the commonest thing is for everyone to as much as he respects his religion also has dignity for others'.
Everyone has the right to whatever religion or even if not to belong to anyone.
When this simple and basic principle is applied, there and then, we would eradicate religious cohesion and chaos.
