ARE AFRICAN LEADERS SERIOUS IN FIGHTING RAMPANT CORRUPTIONS?

I still stand to be corrected but up to this time, i have not in any way got realistic data from African governments on thir so-called fight against corruption.
Instead, they are waisting resources in rewarding their party supporters by creating the toothless "ANTI CORRUPTION COMMISSIONS" for sure, there are one or two strong bosses of these anti corruption bodies, but they cannot prosecute high profile cases especially when they are related to strong party supporters, family members, relatives of girl friends or boy friends of the government of the day.
So i will appreciate receiving or hearing from you all about results of anti corruption cases successfully prosecuted without any political interference.

I cant think of any either. All cases of corruption fought in Africa are always political enemies of those in power.
During the days of Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, it is only his political enemies that are corrupt and his political children are saints.
This type of selective justice will not get us any where.
I told a friend of mine recently that If government and security agenceies cannot arrest, prosecute and punish persons in government that are plundering the resources of the country then, the government lacks the moral right to arrest miscreants, armed robbers and other petty thieves in the soceity.
My brother, until we truely fight corruption and punish offenders no matter whose Ox is gored we will not get out of economic doldrums and our dreams of seeing a prosperous Africa will only be a mirrage. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon James

corruption has become the order of the day. There is no one who is ready to fight this vice, everyone seems at peace with the it. Leaders not only protect it but more worrying there devise mechanisms of commiting even bigger ones.
The reluctance is not only on the hands ogf the african leaders but also the citizens, and more worse the international leaders and foregners who cover up or help those in their favour. Leaders hide they corrupt resources in the foreign countries.
The only way to fight is to provide quality leadership and ensure that the right kind of leaders are incharge.

The word corruption has become most African Leaders favorite word, they used at political rallies before elections and during their inauguration ceremony. But after those brilaint speeches they forget all they have said about fighting corruption instead of it becoming public enemy number one it becomes public friend number a clear example is in Liberia.

Corruption is like breast milk to them - not just to African but to any politician in the World. Money, money, money..
Aren't they ashamed to accumulate such wealth but let population starve? Aren't they ashamed to lie on television and other media. WHY ON EARTH DO WE ELECT THEM?
No anti corruption bodies will fight it, they're run by bigest thiefs in the country!
So is there any way to get out of this vicious circle?? Is there any country without corruption, where politicians are moral, directors are moral, policemen are moral, etc. ?? I wanna move there right now. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You are right, African leaders have not walked their talks, not in this generation..if any have done then they are very few.. U see the Zambian scenerio, where FTJ former republican president was being investigated for having plundered tax payers money. A task force was formed to look into this case for seven years now., alot of money was pumped into this project to investigate, but guess what? today the Guy is just acquitted like that claiming that he has no case. the big question is, what was the task force on corruption investigating in seven years? where is all the evidence that has been produced over the years? The guy is now even vocal, when he was still going to court he was always sick admitted to south African hospitals en everything. Today he is energetic en has developed verbal diarheoa.
He has back-up from some big fish somewhere (suspicions).
Back to topic: If anything the governments of Africa are corrupt as a byproduct (because) of western corruption. Corruption comes in many forms, not just blatantly stealing money. Western governments do indeed, steal money. But they also subject other countries to poverty, and force other countries to do whatever they ask, whatever benefits the US or Canada. They subsidize American farmers so that they pay less to produce goods, then they shop those goods to Africa, sell them there at lower prices than local African farmers can sell them for (all because of the original subsidy). Western governments are employed in highly self-serving politics. They pretend to care about countries in Africa, but mostly don't.

i think in Malawi we are not making much head way in eradicating corruption. we do have an anti corruption bureau but it is filled with corrupt officers as well. but it is also not an independent body. it is owned by the sate so they can not investigate those in power. in doing so they only investigate those who are no longer in power. so it is mostly seen as a witch hunting device. i.e. to punish those who were formerly in power. it also concentrates on high profile people and politicians so the local people do not see the importance of it.. as such it is not working in my country & i don't think our leaders are paying attention to it. i would rather. we don't just copy concepts that are working in other countries. as Africa i think its high time we analyze what really is our problem.... & how do we want to solve them. i mean if somebody comes & says your problem is poverty, therefore write a proposal & i will fund it. i mean if you don't see that as a problem. it cant be solved..... in my context. no matter how much we brag about corruption that's not our issue........ we should talk about financial responsibility first!
