I am afraid my friend, unless you could build them high enough to reach the super fast jet stream, they will never be anything more than a secondary form of generating. Even at the most windy areas, the wind force is always patchy and could not be relied upon to supply a constant stream of electricity. They do not have a way of being able to react to peak supply spikes.

More viable are wave and tidal forms of generation. These are at least regular, but there will always be a need for either nuclear, gas or coal stations as they can respond quickly to sudden increases in demand.

Personally, I favour local units that burns the local rubbish to generate electricity and at the same time, the hot water from the process is used to heat things like the swimming pool, the hospital or any number of things.

As long as the crap coming out of the chimney can be controlled, it is a win, win, win situation. No rubbish going into land fill, electricity and hot water.

Yes Brother! Wind speed increases as we go higher into the atmosphere. So, if we can find out a methodology to stay afloat in the atmosphere against gravity, we have a chance.

Wind power would be the perfect alternative to the many harmful power options currently being used. I've seen many wind towers being built and they are not overly loud or anything. Really is a perfect option and should become the preferred alternative alongside solar power.

Calif has feilds of wind termines

Alberta also in Canada

Wind has so much potential
we just need to have people
Put there minds to it
and Dream up the best way to use it
It is Free
No power bills once its running, just upkeep

But that is the RUB
not enough money to draw in the power company, as I see it

they still try and block many homemade projects

But with Global warming
it is the heat on the land that make the WIND grow, and bring the superstorms

If we could harness, that power,
the highth issue would come down

Great posts, I love the idea of Wind power being used in a Time we are makeing these Huge Winds

I'm not sure it will ever be a dominant source of energy - they require a lot of space and only make sense in areas with reliable wind speeds. I do believe that wind power will be a solid contributor along with other forms of renewable energy resources. I would much rather see fields of turbines instead of coal plants.

I am really sorry, you are all very well meaning and it is a great idea to have free electricity but wind turbines are just a great big PR exercise for governments who want to be seen to care about the environment. These things need huge concrete bases and their construction means that really they will probably only break even in the carbon neutral stakes by the time they have to be replaced. Especially when you take into account the transport carbon costs of the units, the bases and all the men who have to travel many miles to arrive at the out of the way sites where these are sited.

Wave power and, in the deserts, sun power are the only real alternative until they crack the fusion or is it fission problem.

Bio-mass boilers in local communities are another good idea but nobody wants the chimneys in their back yards.

I repeat, wind power can only ever be a minor supplier of energy to a country unless somebody can find a way to control their entire population to only consume electricity when there is a windy day.

I think not.

While I agree that wind power is not for every area. I think it works well in some

but in this world,
each area has its own spieses of Animals floweres, etc

as exp
down under
they have a very different life style of kinds and shapes of life
So there needs would be different say from where I live.

We have caraboo
it would not thrive in the Warm area dowon under, and it would be out of place

So to I think
would any energy needs
they have a very Hot sun
So Solar, etc, would be a more Vialbe way to recapture heat
power etc

Bio mass is another great idea for the areas that can utilize its ability to aid

But just like every home has its own way of living, with its own plants and animal life

I think that claen Power, verses Dark Power will be what is needed
and those Bright young minds that are now thinking about the problems
Will come up with the TECh that is needed in their homes

to the Future
Love
