Making my Community More Aware of Global Warming
August 31, 2009 - 03:12 PM

I have a hard time figuring out different ways to make my town aware of global warming. I have a hard time cause they cannot see the change, the difference in the environment. Please help me in finding ideas to make my community more aware.

A very good intention, Dean. If you hace a bicycle, display some posters in the front of it like "Keep fit, Save fuel, Save Earth", etc.

Whenever you have a conversation with your neighbour, just tell them how you save energy using modern gadgets. Make good show of your own obsession with your campaign. Inspire them.

I am stressing on energy bacause energy inefficiently used is converted into death-heat (entropy). Many people do not understand. So, it should be told in mythical and mystical fashion just like in Bible. Yes. Sunday masses are ideal places for carrying forward your campaign. An endorsement from the presiding Pastor would only strengthen it. He would have to equate Satan with inefficiency and wastage- modern synonyms for Satancool

And above all, fortune favors the brave and steadfast. Best Wishes, Dean.

I like this post, good topic, important topic and there are some good ideas there to try and make people aware...You would think at this stage that most people would have an understanding of just how bad the situation is but its not the case..Ignorance is a curse...

The most important think is to keep trying and don't give up. It is hard sometimes for people to see the bigger picture, and harder yet to inspire change.

Images and movies, i think will be your best forms of persuasion. By now, everyone in your community should be aware of what climate change is, the affects it has, and what causes it. It is heavily publicized in the media, so unless they live in a bubble, they should at least have some fundamental knowledge about it. If they haven't grasped the importance of the effects of climate change, then chances are:
1. they don't completely understand the implications of it (which is possible despite all the media coverage)
2.they don't see how climate change relates to them (in other words they don't understand how they impact or could be impacted by climate change)
3. they understand what it is, they understand that it will affect them, but they don't know what to do to reduce there impact.

I'm assuming that you are still in high school, so that would be a great place to start advocating your issue. You could have viewings of videos during lunch hour. People are probably more concerned about climate change than you think. Some examples are:
An Inconvenient Truth
A Global Warming?
Five Ways to Save the World
Six Degrees That Could Change the World
There's lots of movies/documentaries out there to choose from.
You could talk to your teachers and see if there is any possible way to get extra credit, maybe even start a reading club with books about climate change. I'm sure your teachers would be more than happy to help you out. Another great way to reach the community is to make a group at the public library about global warming. Have discussion groups, send emails to friends and family whenever you find interesting information/resources, and make it a prerogative to help you community find ways to reduce their impact.

It'll take a bit of time and effort on your part if you are truly interested in inspiring change, but it'll be worth it. Haha This post is longer than I intended. Sorry about that. I hope it helps.

Educate them and spread the news of what global warming is doing to the world. Arrange a meeting with the youth first and educate them and all of you come up with a project on how to educate the community at large
